About Our Opportunity

As a Senior Policy Analyst, you will provide policy development, implementation and evaluation/monitoring for the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage supporting divisional and corporate priorities.

You will develop legislative, regulatory, policy and process initiatives that are strategically aligned with government priorities. You will lead projects and participate in multi-disciplinary, interdepartmental teams of senior staff in the identification and analysis of policy and research options and recommendations related to Nova Scotia\xe2\x80\x99s tourism, arts, heritage, diverse communities, and culture sectors.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Provide advice to program staff on policy development projects and liaise with other departmental staff to prepare policy advice documents, internal policy documents, briefing materials, and submissions to Executive Council.
  • Undertake research, develop, and analyze policy options, and make recommendations to leadership on a broad range of complex and sometimes conflicting issues, to inform the decision-making process for senior management, the department and government.
  • Take an integrated approach to policy development on a broad range of complex issues, involving internal and external organizations that may have different views, requiring risk analysis.
  • Collaborate with management and staff to ensure comprehensive and timely responses to requests for input into department and government-wide initiatives.
  • Cultivate and develop relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Help ensure the lens of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility is woven into CCTH policy, operations and service delivery and work collaboratively within the department, government and with CCTH partners as required to advance goals related to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you have a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree plus five (5) years of related experience in policy, communications, program planning and development or a master\xe2\x80\x99s degree plus three (3) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

You will have extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of strategic planning and policy development. You have experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and will work with partners (including funders), to assist in the identification and analysis of policy options.

In addition, you have skills/experience in the following areas:
  • You have strong planning, writing, organizational and administrative skills.
  • You have an ability to present your work clearly, set priorities, meet deadlines, balance priorities, and manage multiple assignments.
  • You can work independently and in team environments.
  • You are a strategic thinker who demonstrates strong critical, analytical, and problem-solving skills and an ability to deal with sensitive and complex issues.
  • You demonstrate strong interpersonal, relationship building, and communications skills.
  • You apply the concepts of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility to all areas of your work and support your colleagues to do the same.
  • You maintain the integrity and security of confidential and sensitive information.
Assets for this position include:
  • Experience working in a government environment
  • Experience supporting the development of legislation and regulations
  • Experience in intergovernmental relations, such as supporting federal-provincial-territorial (FPT/PT) committees and development of agreements with various levels of government
  • French as a second language
Equivalency

Salary Range: $3,238.10 - $4,047.67 Bi-Weekly
