Responsibilities

External Communications:

Execute a communications plan within established systems and procedures.

Operational Compliance:

Maintain and renew a deep knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, and ensure own work adheres to required standards. Or identify, within the team, patterns of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and with relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, taking appropriate action to report and resolve these and escalating issues as appropriate.

Content Creation:

Write drafts and edit content in line with organizational style guidelines to format and publish information on websites and in print.

Public/Government Relations Campaign Execution:

Develop and/or deliver a public relations, government relations, regulation, and registration plan for significant aspects of a product, service, or business under guidance from senior colleagues.

Data Collection and Analysis:

Conduct research using primary data sources, and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends.

Personal Capability Building:

Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

Public/Government Relations Campaign Planning:

Develop and update the planning of public relations, government relations, regulation, and registration campaigns for a specific area, aligning this with business goals.

Public/Government Relations Campaign Management:

Manage a few public relations and government relations campaigns and negotiate service-level agreements to ensure successful campaigns and value for money. Plan, coordinate, and supervise activities relating to campaigns.

Stakeholder Engagement:

Contribute to stakeholder engagement by identifying stakeholders; by finding out their needs, issues, and concerns; and by reacting to these needs, issues, and concerns, arranging meetings and events and drafting supporting materials to promote understanding and commitment.

Document Preparation:

Edit document in line with organizational style guidelines and prepare information for publication.

Information and Business Advice:

Provide specialist advice on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, resolving queries and issues and referring very complex or contentious issues to others.

Education

Minimum of 10 years of progressive planning experience, including 5+ years in a senior role with project management responsibilities Post-secondary degree in urban planning from a recognized college or university Membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute as a Registered Professional Planner (RPP)

Experience

General Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of progressive planning experience, including 5+ years in a senior role with project management responsibilities

Managerial Experience:

Consulting background as a lead planner/project manager responsible for private development planning applications is preferred Expert knowledge of the provincial land use planning system, legislation, policies, and plans including Places to Grow, Provincial Policy Statement, and the Planning Act Previous experience in providing expert testimony as a Professional Planner at the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) is an asset Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills as well as proven project management skills Sound knowledge and understanding of current provincial, inter-regional, regional, and local planning issues Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
