Job Summary



This position provides senior professional urban planning services to the department, working collaboratively within the organization and directly and independently with members of the community to develop long range projects, plans and policies, interpret policies, implement directives and recommendations, and administer programs.

Duties & Responsibilities


Leads and supports discussions, in a public forum, to formulate and propose land use and community plans, policy changes and community support programs for consideration by City Council. Prepares and recommends concept plans, detailed design and subdivision plans, policy changes, business plans and administrative processes for the implementation of approved plans, policies, and programs. Communicates and engages with a variety of stakeholders, including but not limited to City Administration, other professionals including industry representatives, property and business owners, community associations, advocacy groups, the public and City Council to inform the development and implementation of plans and policies and for other land use planning matters. Compiles and analyzes data related to demographic and other factors affecting growth, land use and social environment monitoring. Prepares and presents reports and recommendations to advisory committees, standing policy committees and City Council. Balances and prioritizes information from a variety of sources, both internal and external to determine the public interest. Provides professional and technical support to Director, Section Manager and/or Senior Planner II. Manages projects, including the supervision of staff and coordinating the work of others. Maintains expertise related to current and anticipated trends in land use planning. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education, Training and Experience Requirements


Degree in planning or a related field. Possession of Full Membership standing in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), Saskatchewan Professional Planners Institute (SPPI). Five years' related professional planning experience. Possession of a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's Licence. Current driver's abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.




Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:


Thorough knowledge of the principles, standards and practices related to urban planning and land development. Thorough knowledge of related municipal by-laws, legislation, and regulations. A combination of training and/or direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of project initiation, planning, execution, and completion, would be considered an asset. Demonstrated ability to analyze data and resolve complex issues in a multi-disciplinary environment and work effectively with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with groups, individuals, and agencies. Demonstrated ability to conduct meetings and facilitate working groups Demonstrated ability to plan and implement public and stakeholder engagement activities on a variety of matters related to planning, land development, zoning, and social issues. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing Demonstrated ability to direct and coordinate the work of others. Demonstrated ability to provide technical or professional advice and guidance to staff and consultants. Demonstrated ability in the use of a computer and standard business software such as Microsoft Office Suite. Skills and experience using various planning software such as AutoCAD and geographic information system would be considered an asset.

Weekly Hours:

Salary Range:

$91,755.60 to $101,160.24 CAD

per annum
