About the role
D-Wave are seeking a skilled Senior Performance Researcher to join our Performance Research team, which develops and evaluates cutting-edge applications and methods for our D-Wave's annealing-based quantum computers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physics, algorithms, or a related field. An effective researcher on this team will interact with colleagues both on the Processor Development team, who design, calibrate, and stage our quantum annealing systems, and on the Software Applications team, who enable and facilitate access to the systems. You will help push the boundaries of what's possible in quantum computation by devising novel experimental strategies, improving performance metrics, and identifying the real-world potential of quantum approaches.
What you'll do
Research and evaluate new ways to control the quantum annealing systems
Explore applications, especially in the areas of quantum simulation and optimization
Collaborate with team members to develop and maintain software for these applications
Write internal reports and scientific publications describing our experimental results
Design and run experiments to characterize system-level performance under varying computational workloads
Translate theoretical proposals into experimentally testable protocols
Analyze performance trends to inform future hardware and algorithmic development
About You
Doctorate in physics, computer science, or a related field, or master's with 3+ years of experience
Proficiency in Python, Git, and Linux Expertise in the analysis, distillation, and presentation of experimental data
Experience with Monte Carlo methods and statistical mechanics
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across interdisciplinary teams
Strong problem-solving skills and a track record of independent research

109,400 - 164,000 USD per year(Remote (United States))
120,400 - 180,500 CAD per year(Hybrid (Burnaby, British Columbia, CA))
