About the team



The Saskatchewan Teachers' Retirement Plan staff administer the pension plan that covers Saskatchewan teachers, ensuring they have a lifetime pension on retirement. The STRP staff use their professional skills to provide accurate calculations and support to teachers planning and during their retirement.


What you'll do



The Senior Pension Specialist works in a collaborative environment and is responsible for a wide variety of professional, technical and analytical activities. This position assists both the Pension Director and the Pension Manager in the planning, implementation and delivery of strategies, goals, programs and services for the Saskatchewan Teachers' Retirement Plan. This includes the research and preparation of documents and assisting with recommendation implantation. With a focus on service excellence and exceptional member experience, the Senior Pension Specialist is responsible for monitoring and ensuring timely and accurate pension administration services to Plan members and other stakeholders in compliance with provincial and federal pension regulations.


Responsibilities include:


Prepare and participate in regular meetings with members as it relates to their pension estimates and payouts. Assist with Planning for Retirement sessions. Provide professional advice to member queries via email, telephone or in person. Draft and update member communication pieces on benefit entitlements (e.g., letters, brochures, forms, applications, etc.). Review and develop member correspondence and documents to ensure clarity, comprehension and understanding of complex information for members and staff while meeting legislated requirements. Respond to issues that are difficult, sensitive or investigative in nature which requires the application of organizational knowledge and technical expertise. Resolve issues related to member services and develop appropriate communication programs to address those issues. Meet with STRP members on an individual basis to explain the benefits they are entitled to and what the options are in relation to those benefits in terms of the STRP Plan Text and applicable legislation. Through written and oral communication, extract the pertinent information needed in order to determine a member's eligibility for benefit entitlements and other pension rights such as purchases of service, transfers to other pension plans, etc. Review calculations and options for reasonableness and compliance with STRP Plan Text and any other related governing regulations, policies and Acts. Provide written STRP service standards and the tools to continually monitor and measure delivery of services to members. Provide leadership in the STRP member service area to ensure work unit goals are met. Serves as a team lead to pension specialists and technicians: train, coordinate workload, manage performance, provide career development, and other team lead responsibilities. Peer review work of pension specialists and technicians before it is sent to members or designated parties.



What you'll bring




An undergraduate degree in the area of economics or business administration and a Pension Plan Administration Certificate or equivalent, combined with five years of related pension experience. Demonstrated leadership skills. Interpersonal skills for dealing with members, employees at all organizational levels and with officials of other organizations. Proficiency in Excel and Word. Proven oral presentation and written communication skills. Established skill in arithmetic and mathematics. Experience and/or training in an automated pension administration system. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply pension plan legislation, text, and policies. Proficient knowledge of pension plan administration principles, techniques and practices. Mature judgment. High degree of initiative and motivation. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
