The Role:




Reporting to the Paymaster, the Senior Payroll and Benefits Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient administration of payroll and employee benefits across Canada, the United States, and providing support for Mexico. This role requires exceptional accuracy, discretion, analytical capability, and technological proficiency. The ideal candidate is bilingual (English/French), highly organized, and well-versed in payroll legislation and benefits administration within a multinational or manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities



Payroll Administration

Accurately process payroll for salaried and hourly employees in compliance with legislation, collective agreements, and company policies. Calculate and validate wages, overtime, bonuses, shift premiums, and other compensation components. Maintain up-to-date payroll records, including salary adjustments, deductions, and tax withholdings. Ensure timely remittance of payroll taxes and completion of all statutory reporting requirements. Partner with HR to align employee data with payroll processing. Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, responding promptly and professionally to employee inquiries. Develop, document, and continuously improve standardized payroll procedures. Conduct regular internal audits to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
Benefits Administration

Manage employee enrollment, updates, and terminations in group benefits programs. Act as the primary point of contact for employee questions regarding benefits policies and plan details. Liaise with benefits providers to resolve issues and ensure accurate administration across divisions. Support annual benefits enrollment and communicate updates clearly and effectively to employees.
Compliance and Reporting

Maintain current knowledge of Canadian, U.S., and regional payroll and benefits legislation; experience with Mexican payroll support considered an asset. Prepare and file year-end tax documentation, reports, and statements across multiple jurisdictions. Assist Finance with payroll-related journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting. Provide payroll and benefits data for internal and external audits. Generate reports and dashboards on compensation, deductions, and benefits utilization for management review.
Employee, and HR Support

Provide expert guidance to HR teams and employees on payroll and benefits practices, systems, and policies. Deliver training sessions on payroll systems, timecard approvals, PTO tracking, and related processes. Facilitate payroll and benefits components of new employee onboarding and orientation. Respond to employee inquiries with professionalism, accuracy, and confidentiality.

Skills and Qualifications:



Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification or equivalent; minimum 5 years of payroll/benefits experience.

Experience in a multinational or manufacturing environment strongly preferred

Proficiency with payroll systems such as ADP, Dayforce, UKG; strong Excel and data analysis skills

Bilingual: English and French required; Spanish is an asset Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian and US payroll legislation; familiarity with Mexican payroll processes is an advantage. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail High degree of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-service mindset * Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
