POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sr. Payroll and Benefits Specialist to join our high-performing HR team. This role is critical in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, benefits administration, and compliance with all applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in payroll systems, a continuous improvement mindset, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. This individual will also play a key role in supporting audits, process improvements, and employee inquiries, while contributing to a culture of accuracy, accountability, and operational excellence.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Own and execute end-to-end biweekly payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
  • Validate and import time and attendance data; apply complex calculations for hours, deductions, adjustments, and reimbursements.
  • Liaise with managers and supervisors to ensure all timesheets and changes are reviewed and approved by payroll deadlines.
  • Prepare and submit ROEs through the Service Canada portal, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and journal entries to ensure correct GL postings; partner with Finance to resolve discrepancies.
  • Generate high-quality reports and dashboards (e.g., headcount, overtime, turnover, cost center analysis) for leadership insights.
  • Administer and audit WSIB, EHT, and other payroll-related government filings, including remittances and year-end reconciliations.
  • Lead administration of group benefits and RRSP plans, including enrollments, terminations, and invoice audits.
  • Act as payroll's point person for benefits questions, problem resolution, and employee education.
  • Maintain and improve payroll documentation and processes, ensuring compliance with internal policies and changing regulations.
  • Collaborate with external staffing agencies to ensure accurate weekly time reporting and timely invoice reconciliation.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to increase payroll efficiency, accuracy, and automation.
  • Provide training and support to employees, supervisors, and managers on ADP and related payroll/benefits systems.
  • Manage sensitive data with the highest level of discretion, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Stay current with payroll legislation, technology updates, and best practices to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Take initiative on special projects and cross-functional improvements as assigned.
WHO YOU ARE
  • Degree or diploma in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification required; Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive payroll experience in a complex, multi-department manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, employment standards, and tax regulations.
  • Proficient with ADP or a comparable payroll system; experience with time and attendance integration preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage benefits and RRSP administration accurately and efficiently.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills -- able to reconcile, audit, and troubleshoot payroll data with confidence.
  • Demonstrated success in driving process improvements and system optimizations in payroll operations.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with financial reporting tools or dashboards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate across departments and support internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; able to meet tight deadlines with competing priorities.
