Join us!Job SummaryThe Senior Officer, Signals and Communications Standards is responsible for safeguarding the integrity of the signal plant. The role ensures policies, standards, regulatory requirements, and safe practices are understood and implemented across the Signals and Communication (S&C) department. In addition, the role develops and modifies S&C standards, general instructions rules, as well as ensures awareness and knowledge of safe signalling methodologies are followed system wide. Furthermore, the role is accountable for training and overseeing System Engineer, Signals and Communication Standards employees.Main Responsibilitiesxc2xb7 Review and approve all documents which govern how S&C is governed across the United States (U.S.) and Canadaxc2xb7 Review governing regulations such as National Electric Code (NEC), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE)xc2xb7 Approve safety assurance standards and templates for the implementation, maintenance, and validation of the signal plantxc2xb7 Provide mentoring on the key principles of safe signalling practices to System Engineer, Signals and Communication Standards employees and CN's internal customersxc2xb7 Provide technical support to divisions for incident and failure investigationxc2xb7 Analyze the department's metrics on a regular basis and look for improvements on common problems across the networkxc2xb7 Work with suppliers to improve the quality and service of products and research alternative solutions and technologies for the cases of obsolescence or lack of improvementxc2xb7 Support Supply Management with technical knowledge, field data and competitive product technical information to obtain the best overall valuexc2xb7 Aid in the development of new technologies deployed within the S&C group providing greater analytics to both Transportation, Mechanical and Rail Operation Centre (ROC) operations for the efficient and safe operation of the networkWorking ConditionsThe role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role is required to be on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight, handle pressure, and stress.
