Data & Technology Driven.BURNCO Rock Products Ltd has a fantastic contract opportunity for a Network Administrator based out of our corporate headquarters in Calgary, Alberta. You will report to our Director, IT Infrastructure Operations & Data Analytics, and work closely with our internal key stakeholders in IT, HR, Finance, as well as our lines of business (Concrete, Asphalt, Aggregate). A key part of your role will be transitioning our network systems from Cisco to Fortinet, leveraging your expertise to integrate advanced networking solutions seamlessly.What You Will Be DoingHow we see your role breaking down:Project Management and Delivery \xe2\x80\x93 70%

  • Design, maintain, and enhance our network architecture, focusing on transitioning from Cisco to Fortinet systems.
  • Manage networks using Palo Alto and Fortinet firewalls; Cisco & Fortinet routers, switches, wireless access points, Cisco Meraki solutions.
  • Lead and execute migration projects from Cisco to Fortinet environments with minimal disruption.
  • Conduct regular maintenance, updates, and health checks of all network components.
  • Provide on-call support on a rotational basis, resolving network issues efficiently.
  • Lead and deliver multiple parallel IT network initiatives in a disciplined manner on time, on budget, within scope and quality specifications.
  • Lead the creation of step-by-step network deployment procedures with backout and roll-back sequences and timings, test plans and procedures.
  • Work hand in hand with internal resources as well as contractors and suppliers to complete the required design, installation, commissioning of network equipment and systems through complete IT operational acceptance.
  • Make recommendations to leverage network installations and reducing operational costs.
  • Document proper capacity plans to ensure appropriate bandwidth, latency, and availability.
  • Manage interdependencies with other projects and operational activities.

  • Participate in the annual budgeting process for network infrastructure.
  • Implement continuous improvement practices to enhance network operations.
  • Maintain regular project progress reporting on all network activities and initiatives.

  • Cultivate a collaborative team environment.
  • Lead change management initiatives related to network infrastructure and systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure network strategies align with business objectives.

Working ConditionsThe role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular work week from Monday to Friday and on-call availability. As some travel will be required to site locations a valid Drivers License is required, as well as an up-to-date Passport for occasional travel across the Canada/United States border.What We Would Like From YouCompetencies

Experience/Technical Skills/Knowledge
  • 10+ years of experience as IT Network and Telecom Project Manager / Engineer (telecoms discipline / design engineer, infrastructure / telecoms lead in Capital Projects $1M+)
  • Strong proven experience delivering datacenter and field network telecom projects, with solid understanding of fibre optic, radio towers, RF, Wi-Fi, LAN, WAN, SD WAN, Cloud Networking, etc.
  • Previous experience in senior network specialist role, showcasing hand-on technical experience and understanding desired
  • Technical understanding of network services (routing, switching, secure remote access, IP-VPN solutions, SD-WAN solutions, virtualization)
  • Good understanding of third-party vendor relationships, hardware, facilities management
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft 365
  • High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Education/Certification/Designation
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in relevant field (computer science, engineering, business)
  • Project Management Professional certification or equivalent (Prince-2) required
  • Networking certifications would be highly advantageous
  • ITIL v4 Foundation, and security certifications are desired.
*Any diplomas, certifications, etc., in an IT field would be considered as an asset
