  • Supervising the municipal engineering team and ensuring project compliance with the terms of funding agreements through regular site inspections and project monitoring activities.
  • Responsible for establishing standards, criteria, and procedures for federal-provincial capital funding programs and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders while overseeing and guiding the technical aspects of municipal infrastructure planning and construction projects.
  • Providing technical advice and expertise in the area of municipal engineering to senior management and government officials, assisting with infrastructure planning and policy, including the evaluation infrastructure project applications.
  • Occasionally, leading or participating in internal or external projects and providing engineering support to municipal units and non-governmental organizations.
Qualifications and ExperienceThe ideal candidate for this role will hold a Bachelor of Engineering degree and bring at least six (6) years of relevant experience in the field of Municipal Engineering. You must be a member in good standing, or eligible for registration, with Engineers Nova Scotia as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng).Knowledge in the principles and practices of municipal engineering and project management in both a rural and urban setting is required, including technical solutions for: pollution abatement; wastewater conveyance and treatment, drinking water distribution and treatment; solid waste management; transportation; and buildings.A high level of proficiency in the use of standard computer-based database management and spreadsheet software, including ability to design and produce standard and customized technical reports.Project Management experience including the ability to manage a high volume of projects concurrently is required.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to prepare written reports with recommendations, and deliver verbal presentations to a variety of audiences. Strong interpersonal, leadership, management, and sound judgement skills are required.While not required, it is considered an asset if you have:
  • Advanced degrees or certifications in municipal engineering or related fields.
  • A working knowledge of provincial environmental regulations, provincial procurement policy, the Municipal Government Act, public transportation policy, asset management for municipal infrastructure, and experience in municipal capacity building
  • Experience in managing federal-provincial funding programs and understanding their criteria.

This role involves stringent deadlines and extensive travel to project locations across the province. You must be prepared to work extra hours as operations demand. You will work in a comfortable office setting while in the office, and frequently visit construction sites for inspections and project monitoring. While at construction sites, risks include high noise levels and heavy equipment operations.
