Reporting to the Mine General Manager, the incumbent will be accountable to oversee mining and earthworks operations on the mine to ensure sustainable and cost-effective ore delivery to the plant aligned with the life of mine plan. The ideal candidate is one who is committed to safe working practices and strives for zero harm.Key responsibilities:

  • Provide visible felt leadership demonstrating De Beers Group\'s values;
  • Ensure that all mining and construction tasks are performed safely and efficiently in compliance with De Beers Group\'s safe operating procedures;
  • Accountable for the execution of mining improvement projects aligned with the operations strategy and life of mine plan;
  • Accountable for mining engineering including short and medium range planning;
  • Accountable for earthworks construction and construction management;
  • Oversee compliance to the short and medium term mine plans and schedules to ensure that mining work is planned, scheduled and resourced effectively;
  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships with key stakeholders at all levels, and leverage these relationships to enhance internal alignment, and build strategic alliances and support for the department;
  • Estimate, manage and control budgets, forecasts and stay in business capital budgets;
  • Manage staff according to the staffing management plan; seek to manage and improve team/staff morale; and manage performance improvement; and
  • Actively develop the technical and leadership skills of the team for their career progression within the company.
This is a site based position working a 4 days In/3 days out rotation preferably based out of Yellowknife, NWT.Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree or Diploma (in Mining or applicable discipline), with eligibility for a Professional Engineering designation in the Northwest Territories;
  • Ten (10) years of advanced management experience in the mining industry with experience in an Open Pit mining environment with a fleet that supports a large tonnage operation preferably with operations in remote location;
  • Highly organized with excellent operational, project management and analytical skills;
  • Strong financial, budget preparation and time management skills are essential;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, relationship management and partnership building skills; and
  • Experience and ability to work well in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment is essential.
