Job Description

The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross' comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.

As a Senior Mine Engineer for the Great Bear Advanced Exploration Project (AEX), you will be responsible for leading and executing a full range of engineering functions to support underground mine development and exploration. You will be accountable for planning, scheduling, and engineering design work that drives safe and efficient underground development.

During the planning phase, the primary focus will be to work with the site team and the selected underground mining contractor to finalize detailed engineering and prepare for underground mobilization. The first underground blast is targeted for December 2025. During the execution of the AEX underground, this role will help support the underground mine design, mining contractor management, and underground operations.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Lead the development of short-, medium-, and long-range underground mine plans that align with project sequencing, safety standards, and strategic objectives. Coordinate and finalize detailed engineering deliverables in collaboration with the underground mining contractor and the site project team ahead of the December 2025 first blast milestone. Collaborate with KTS to align AEX design and planning with Main Production Project objectives and timelines. Support Great Bear and KTS with Main Production Project planning, providing site-level input and engineering data to inform life-of-mine design and production strategy. Supervise and mentor junior engineers and planners (once on board), ensuring alignment with engineering best practices and company policies. Collaborate with the Rock Mechanics and Geology teams to ensure ground control, ore control strategies and exploration drilling timing are embedded in mine planning. Monitor daily, weekly and monthly development performance, providing variance analysis and recommending corrective actions. Prepare 18-month rolling plans and maintain 3-6-month development schedules across all underground zones. Review and validate mine designs including lateral development, stope layouts, access ramps, ventilation raises, and infrastructure placement. Lead or participate in underground inspections and safety audits; implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives. Evaluate alternative mining scenarios to optimize productivity and safety. Manage project engineering deliverables for ventilation, dewatering, electrical, and other underground infrastructure systems. Compile and update resources and reserve estimates and support annual technical reporting requirements. Support capital project planning, including preparation of AFEs and participation in project execution. Participate in site-wide forecasting, budgeting, and cost control processes. Qualifications and Skill Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering, while being registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Ontario. With a minimum of 5-8 years' experience working in a underground mine engineering, or related, role.

Proven leadership and supervisory experience in technical team. Proficiency in underground mine planning software (e.g., MineSight, Deswik, Mine 24D, MineCAD). Skilled in 3D visualization, AutoCAD, and Excel-based modeling. Strong understanding of underground development, long-hole longitudinal stoping practices and Drill & Blast design. Experience with engineering support for ventilation, dewatering, and ground control. Effective cross-functional communication with operations, geology, and construction teams. Solid background in development and production scheduling. Comprehends and capable of interpreting technical language. High attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.

This position is a 5X2 rotation, and is located in Red Lake, Ontario.
