In Mississauga, Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Base Metals Technology Development team work to improve Vale\xe2\x80\x99s competitive edge and support its growth strategies by coming up with safer and more environmentally responsible technology.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Senior Metallurgist to join our Centre of Excellence Pyrometallurgy Department in Mississauga. The Senior Metallurgist works as part of a team applying specialized knowledge and experience in Pyrometallurgy to support technical excellence in Vale global operations. This is a permanent position.Additional in this position, you will:

  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to Vale\xe2\x80\x99s global pyrometallurgical operations, including:
  • Work closely with local technical and operations personnel to develop solutions to process problems, applying sound technical fundamentals.
  • Establish process design basis as required with clearly defined process design criteria.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous or discontinuous improvement.
  • Support development of tools and techniques to measure and monitor performance and ensure sustainability of process and/or technology changes after implementation.
  • Share best practices across business units.
  • Develop and supervise test programs at the lab or plant scale and develop and apply quantitative process modeling/simulation as required to troubleshoot process problems and/or to evaluate viability of process improvements/technology changes.
About YouEducation:
  • Undergraduate degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Materials Science Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in similar subject area/ Pyrometallurgical operations such as roasting, smelting, converting, and refining.
Skills:
  • Applying their knowledge in Pyrometallurgy to sustain and improve these operations.
  • Strong team player skills with ability to build and maintain relationships, in various global location, at various levels.
  • Proven abilities of persuasion and technical influence.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Be willing to travel to operations frequently as required (1-2 times a month).
  • Hands-on experience installing and troubleshooting measurement devices, such as thermocouples, controllers, transducers, gas analyzers, etc. is an asset.
  • Requires the correct blend of interpersonal skills, technical skills, and practical pyrometallurgical experience.
