LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services is seeking a Senior Medical Lab Technologist to join our Genetics team in Toronto, ON.

Our Senior Medical Lab Technologists provide accurate and timely interpretive and diagnostic specimen testing and reporting. Through accuracy, quality, efficiency and expediting test results, you will contribute to patient well-being and the achievement of better health outcomes. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with our Technical, Medical Scientific, and Quality and Regulatory teams to develop, validate, troubleshoot and implement methodologies, platforms and molecular tests for clinical service.
  • Leading and assisting with the design and development of new tests to meet operational initiatives and optimize current tests to standardize testing workflows
  • Leading and assisting with validation of new tests on realtime PCR, NGS, and MassArray platforms
  • Supporting on-going process improvements and problem solving efforts in work organization, test methodologies and lab workflows
  • Performing data analysis required with test development and validation
  • Completing validation documentation and operating procedures for new tests prior to implementation
  • Conducting a wide range of molecular genetic diagnostic and interpretive specimen testing
  • Performing, interpreting and releasing results, while ensuring patient confidentiality
  • Participating in critical reviews of key indicators, incidents, audits, inspection, and improvement opportunities resulting in effective implementation of corrective actions, escalating as appropriate, and driving continuous improvement
This is a Full-Time role working the Day Shift, suitable to the maintenance of a healthy work/life balance. LifeLabs\' facilities are also known as "teaching laboratories", offering opportunities to share knowledge in a collaborative environment, 24-hour medical support through our Medical Science team and Medical library, and the ability to teach our college and university student placements.

LifeLabs is seeking individuals who can work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment, while adhering to LifeLabs\' standards of safety, accuracy and efficiency. Do you have:
  • Medical Laboratory Technology diploma, with specialty in Molecular Genetics
  • Active CMLTO registeration in Molecular Genetics
  • Minimum of 7 years prior experience in a clinical genetics laboratory
  • Experience with test and instrument validation
  • Experience with test transfer from development to clinical service
  • Experience training and teaching Genetics MLTs in advanced molecular genetics techniques
  • Experience with quality control and quality assurance monitoring in a Clinical Genetics laboratory setting
  • Theoretical and hands-on experience of advanced molecular techniques including NGS
  • Clear understanding of detailed documentation and comprehensive record keeping
  • Experience with variety of molecular platforms and technical methodologies
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to identify and effectively troubleshoot issues
  • Advanced computational and bioinformatics skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to maintain and promote strict standards of safety, patient privacy and confidentiality
