:WSP is offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Materials Engineer, focused on construction materials technology, to join our Dartmouth, Nova Scotia office. You will play a pivotal role in managing technical projects and client relationships, mentoring and developing junior staff, and contributing to our strategic growth plans for the Atlantic Canadian business.Reporting to the Director of Materials, you will need a strong background in construction materials engineering, business development, and client relationship management.To excel in this role, you should have a solid understanding of engineering design principles for construction materials, with a particular emphasis on quality control/quality assurance, condition assessment and rehabilitation design, and a broad knowledge of materials science, including concrete, aggregates, soil, and asphalt pavement engineering.Responsabilities:

  • You will serve as a technical resource in the Atlantic region materials engineering business across the life cycle of project work: problem definition, solution development, testing, engineering, reporting and operations support;
  • You will provide consulting engineering services for sectors such as: industrial, commercial, municipal, provincial, transportation, and residential projects for both new construction and the condition assessment and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure;
  • You will manage technical and junior engineering staff at WSP's Dartmouth office;
  • You will provide project development and delivery (proposals, project management, client relations, technical reports, team development and training);
  • You will oversee and review the planning, field support and completion of materials testing for the provision of quality control/quality assurance services (Portland cement concrete, aggregates/soils, asphalt concrete) for buildings, highways, bridges, airports, etc.;
  • You will lead projects assessing existing infrastructure (non-destructive/destructive techniques), determining repair/rehabilitation strategies, and developing capital expenditure plans;
  • You will prepare specifications and oversee contract management related to materials engineering;
  • You will be familiar with testing of construction materials in accordance with industry standards;
  • You will be participating in the laboratory quality control program, supporting the laboratory supervisor with internal/external audits;
  • You will lead in the development and review of mixture designs (Portland cement concrete, asphalt concrete);
  • You will maintain involvement on various industry associations (CSA, ACI, ICRI, etc.) and undertake activities and initiatives such as conference attendance, technical committee involvement, and presentations;
  • You will initiate and/or assist other members of the Materials Team in business development and developing internal and external clients along with strong client interaction;
  • You will work to build relationships and business opportunities with other WSP staff in Dartmouth, the Atlantic region and around the company through constructive engagement and collaboration;
  • You will contribute to a rewarding and collaborative work atmosphere in the office and remotely, and to engaging junior and intermediate staff in all disciplines;
  • You will review assignments prepared by junior personnel for technical accuracy;
  • You will contribute to a culture of health, safety and protection of the environment by being a role model to junior, intermediate and new staff and by giving industry and site perspectives to inexperienced staff;
  • You will provide an understanding of our client's needs and deliver high quality service to ensure client satisfaction;
  • You will be a key participant and/or leader in team and client meetings;
  • You will help develop and participate in strong interoffice and intercompany teams to achieve project goals;
  • You will recognize areas for internal improvement and work with other senior colleagues and team leads to develop these improvements in the Atlantic region;
  • You will endeavour to minimize our exposure and risk across projects; and,
  • You will help identify partnership opportunities and capitalize on xe2x80x9cadd-onxe2x80x9d opportunities within existing projects and new clients.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Materials Engineering (focus on construction materials: concrete, asphalt pavement, aggregates). Post-graduate degree preferred;
  • 10-15 years of relevant experience post-graduation;
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia, or ability to obtain registration;
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision to achieve objectives;
  • Proven track record in work procurement and business development;
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills;
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking abilities;
