Shoppers Drug Mart is looking for a Senior Manager, Strategic Pharmaceutical Partnerships to join our team. Reporting directly to the Director, Strategic Pharmaceutical Partnerships, you will shape high-impact partnerships between Shoppers Drug Mart and external healthcare organizations. You will also lead the execution and management of existing strategic healthcare partnerships. This role is highly cross-functional and requires collaboration with many internal teams and external partner organizations (primarily pharmaceutical and medical device manufactures).
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in commercial strategy and managing partnerships. An interest in healthcare is important. We are looking for candidates that have skills related to developing presentations for senior leaders, using frameworks to inform business strategy, managing financials and contract terms, and leading cross-functional teams. The partnerships you design and manage will help transform how Canadians access medications, specialty care, and digital health solutions.
What You'll Do:
Drive Strategic Growth:

  • Support the Director with business development by identifying new opportunities to form partnerships that drive mutual value for our organization, our partners organization, and our customers.
  • Develop high quality materials, such as PowerPoint presentations and financial models, that will be used to facilitate conversations with leaders at partner organizations.
  • Act as the main 'point person' for external partners who have existing contracts with Shoppers Drug Mart
Lead Partnerships from Idea to Execution:
  • Consult with cross-functional teams--including regulatory, medical, pharmacy operations, legal, pharmacy services, privacy, technology, marketing, and data teams--to inform the scoping of new strategic partnerships.
  • Develop frameworks/programs for launching new strategic partnerships and create all necessary supporting materials, such as PowerPoint presentations that document all aspects of the partnerships in detail (e.g., scope, timeline, regulatory considerations, etc.)
  • Obtain all necessary approvals from legal, regulatory, medical, privacy, and pharmacy operations for new strategic partnerships.
  • Assist with the drafting of the business terms as a part of contract negotiations with external partners.
Be a Trusted Partner to Industry Leaders:
  • Provide oversight on ongoing strategic partnerships by acting as the primary project manager.
  • Liaise with internal teams to ensure partnerships are on track and within scope, ensuring that Shoppers Drug Mart is not in breach of contractual obligations.
  • Provide regular updates to SDM leadership as well as external partners regarding the status of partnership conversations.
  • Measure the performance of existing strategic partnerships, highlighting opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage vendor invoicing and financial reporting, including the creation, submission, and tracking of invoice payments.
Become an Industry Expert:
  • Build deep knowledge of Shoppers Drug Mart's value proposition, including digital health and specialty health businesses.
  • Meet with internal teams to understand their business priorities, especially the Pharmacy Services, Digital Health, and Specialty Health Network (SHN) teams.
  • Become an expert in our internal processes that are required to launch partnerships with pharmaceutical and medical device organizations.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends by reading relevant news articles and sharing those insights with our team.
  • Attend industry conferences and events.
What You'll Need:
  • 6+ years of full-time professional working experience in a related role
  • A degree in from post-secondary education in Business, Science, Engineering, or a related field. MBA is considered an asset.
  • Experience in a professional services environment, such as management consulting, is considered an asset.
  • Experience working for pharmaceutical or medical device organizations is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical ability, problem solving and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and experience presenting to senior audiences.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams to execute complex projects.
  • Excellent time management skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • A demonstrated interest in healthcare, especially digital health, primary care, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices
  • Demonstrated openness to learn, receive and provide feedback, and be coached.
  • Excellent understanding of business tools, especially Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Respect for diversity, and able to work with diverse personalities and styles.
  • Ability to travel to the Shoppers Drug Mart office 4 times per week, located at 243 Consumers Road, North York, ON M2J 4W8.
