Job Summary The Senior Manager, Signals and Communications Design is responsible for multiple teams which are engaged in signal design and testing teams. The role oversees the modification of existing circuits, designing of new signal circuits for the Centralized Traffic Control (CTC), interlocking and highway-railway grade crossing warning system locations, and testing in-service of all wayside, crossing, and Positive Train Control (PTC) systems. Moreover, the position is the CN designated representative for Signals and Communications (S&C) related projects with external stakeholders. Main Responsibilities
  • Lead a team responsible for the systemwide design of S&C projects and installation testing
  • Oversee the design and testing of upgrades necessary for the implementation of PTC
  • Supervise work performed by contractors
  • Provide technical support to Installation and Maintenance
  • Provide program management and governance for all wayside, crossing, and PTC signal projects
  • Handle multiple operating and capital projects with related work processes, equipment, and S&C resources
  • Ensure compliance with safe working procedures and practices
  • Work to maximize asset utilization while controlling costs
Working Conditions The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires minimal travel within North America. Requirements Experience Project Management
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory role and project or program management
Education/Certification/Designation
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering or Engineering Technology, or equivalent transferable work experience and technical training
  • Certified in the United States Operating Rules (USOR) Or Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR)
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Engineering, Technology, Project Management, or related field*

Technical Skills/Knowledge
  • Knowledge of signal systems infrastructure and related safety appliances, S&C project management, applicable regulatory signal systems, general instructions, railway S&C standards, specifications, and procedures
  • Knowledge of CN General Instructions and Signals and Communications Practices (SCPs)
  • Proficient in Bentley Microstation, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Familiar with Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP), Service Reliability System (SRS), Windows Imaging Format (WIM)*
