You will be joining our growing Calgary team, where you will directly support senior team members focused on delivering growth across the business and our geographic areas of focus. As part of this team, you will be responsible for the fundamentals research and analysis associated with economic, regulatory and policy matters. You will have the chance to define and differentiate yourself as a thought-leader, a rigorous researcher and collaborator that develops thoughtful and data supported insights that help ATCO grow.

As a Senior Manager in the team, you will primarily be performing and overseeing a broad range of analytical, modelling, and research activities to inform ATCO Energy Systems\' growth strategy. You will engage extensively across the organization, with third-party research firms, and present findings in a variety of methods to support ATCO Energy Systems\' strategic growth plans. You will also support transactions, opportunity pursuits and supporting or leading other corporate growth initiatives.

What you\'ll do:

  • Generate substantial thought-leadership pieces on policy, regulatory and economic factors impacting different utility markets
  • Provide thoughtful analysis of implications of policy, regulatory and economic factors to ATCO Energy Systems\' potential growth initiatives and its ability to generate stronger, more sustainable economic outcomes
  • Work collaboratively across the businesses including across geographies to develop strategies and joint analyses in support of broader ATCO insights and corporate objectives
  • Succinctly disseminate findings and overall perspectives to broader ATCO teams using a variety of communication channels most notably written reports and visual and oral presentations
  • Conceive, design, perform and document a broad range of economic analyses and research assignments and bring such studies to meaningful conclusions
  • Engage on multiple projects simultaneously, conducting and/or overseeing different types of analyses and research including policy, regulatory, statistical, econometric and socio-economic, forecasting
  • Build and employ econometric models where required to gain insights and develop scenarios for economic or policy trends
  • Assist in leading, managing and mentoring junior members of our high-performing team, providing guidance and supporting the development of their careers
  • Assist in managing operational capabilities of the team by ensuring that work is completed and reviewed in a timely and effective manner
What you\'ll need:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Economics, Commerce / Business, Finance, Law, Engineering or related discipline
  • Masters degree in Business, Finance, Economics an asset, but not required
  • 10+ years of Investment Banking, Management Consulting, utilities or energy sector experience; related experiences also considered
  • Strong research, quantitative and analytical skills
  • Excel in strategic thinking and communications, including ability to gain enrollment within the organization
  • Advanced ability in developing and performing associated scenario analyses combined with high attention to detail and rigorous review techniques
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong active listening and inquiry skills
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo and speak up with views that may differ from the group
  • Energetic team player that welcomes challenges and leadership responsibilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the energy or utility sector including key trends and factors shaping those sectors would be an asset, but not required
  • Proactive amidst ambiguity, ability to deliver on work even when certain elements are complex or ambiguous
  • Ability to manage complex tasks with competing priorities, tight time requirements and develop and implement research strategies to support investment pursuit initiatives
  • Experience managing teams of high-performing economists or analysts
  • Expert knowledge of Excel and MS Office applications
