Your role

Based in Halifax.

Radio-Canada Acadie is looking for a Senior Manager, News and Programming, for the Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador region.

Based in Halifax, you are responsible for planning, guiding, organizing, producing and presenting content across all platforms (TV, radio and digital) for the three provinces, and oversee radio program staff (Le r\xc3\xa9veil IP\xc3\x89, Le r\xc3\xa9veil N-E et TN, La mouv\xc3\xa9e), editorial staff and technical personnel in the region.

To develop the teams under your responsibility, you manage the human, technical and financial resources assigned to you with an eye to achieving regional and Regional Media objectives. You work closely with your colleagues on the Radio-Canada Acadie leadership team and under the supervision of the Regional Director. You also ensure that CBC/Radio-Canada\xe2\x80\x99s Journalistic Standards and Practices are applied across all your teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning Radio-Canada Acadie\xe2\x80\x99s overall strategic objectives for the three platforms and your region.
  • In tandem with the Senior Manager, News & Current Affairs, for New Brunswick, set objectives related to the news department, editorial practices, impact journalism and continuous news.
  • Advise regional management on what actions should be prioritized to achieve your region\xe2\x80\x99s and teams\xe2\x80\x99 objectives and see to their implementation.
  • Co-ordinate the human and administrative resources required to produce content across all platforms (digital, radio and TV).
  • Assist in analyzing audience needs and suggest relevant content to help achieve approved objectives.
  • Assess operating and capital budget needs and recommend appropriate solutions to management. Monitor expenses in line with allocated budgets. Suggest actions based on programming and production requirements.
  • Motivate news teams to pitch and develop a variety of relevant content for audiences, whether in the areas of continuous news, special features, impact journalism or arts and social affairs programming.
  • Suggest special coverage initiatives (specials, Facebook Live events, etc.), taking whatever action is required to produce them.
  • Connect and build relationships with Regional Media colleagues across the country as well as with network staff.
  • Develop relationships with counterparts at CBC\xe2\x80\x99s regional stations in the three provinces.
  • Sit on selection boards.
  • Participate in the performance management process for staff and, if necessary, suggest ways to improve performance.
  • Represent regional management at outreach events.
  • Sit on various local, regional and national committees upon request.
  • Suggest and implement more efficient procedures, and monitor the productivity of teams reporting to you.
  • Manage technical, technology and workspace constraints. Provide recommendations on equipment acquisitions and new technical methods/practices. Keep up with the latest technological developments.
  • Maintain contacts with other regional stations in Atlantic Canada to maximize opportunities for efficiencies and synergy.
  • Identify and arrange the necessary training for team members.
Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in the media industry, including advanced knowledge of multiplatform environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of the media, including digital and social platforms, as well as CBC/Radio-Canada\xe2\x80\x99s Journalistic Standards and Practices and Program Policies.
  • Proven team-management experience.
  • Strong leadership skills to engage and inspire creative, self-motivated teams.
  • Proven track record in developing employees and providing constructive feedback.
  • Knowledge of the culture, economy and diverse communities in Atlantic Canada, particularly in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Understanding/knowledge of the realities faced by Francophone minority communities
  • Financial management skills.
  • Ability to make multiple decisions within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to develop and maintain contacts with community leaders as well as with CBC/Radio-Canada viewers and listeners.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak publicly as well as develop and maintain interpersonal relationships.
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor and solutions-focused leadership.
  • English/French bilingualism essential.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as required.
  • Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies on weekends and evenings.
