Overview

We are looking for an individual with demonstrated ability in leading, planning, organizing, and delivering Litigation services to fill the role of Senior Manager, Litigation.

The incumbent will work within Litigation Department in Law & Policy and will be responsible for conducting complex litigation files, including, human rights complaints, legal actions against WorkSafeBC, judicial reviews and other administrative law litigation while leading the planning and activities of the Litigation department.

This position requires you to attend the Richmond office 1-2 days per week and includes the opportunity to work at home.

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll work primarily from your B.C. home and 1-2 days per week in our Richmond, BC office.

What you\'ll do

As a Senior Manager, Litigation, you\xe2\x80\x99ll be responsible for

  • representing WorkSafeBC in all levels of Court in complex matters requiring more senior counsel; at arbitrations, mediations and hearings in regard to WorkSafeBC\xe2\x80\x99s operations and business activities.
  • leading the effective delivery of Litigation services and programs by developing and implementing departmental business plans to support and achieve the Division\xe2\x80\x99s strategic objectives and performance goals.
  • participating in strategic and business planning, policy determination and decision making regarding overall Divisional management matters.
  • Mentoring and coaching department lawyers in the handling of more complex litigation matters.
  • Promoting a client focused service-oriented approach in providing services to internal and external customers.

  • Think and act strategically and build relationships while aligning with organizational objectives
  • Demonstrate strong skills in planning, leading and delivering litigation services and project management skills and have the ability to manage several competing priorities at any given time
  • Clearly and concisely explain, present, and summarize information verbally and demonstrate the ability to influence at a level appropriate to the intended audience
  • Generate creative options for problem resolution using sound judgment, analyzing data and maintaining objectivity
  • Understand, communicate and effectively interact with people across different cultures and backgrounds
  • creates a supportive and healthy working environment within the team by providing support, coaching and developmental planning to support and motivate staff
  • Foster a constructive labour relations environment within the team and deal proactively with issues. Administer the provisions of the collective agreement and handle grievances at the informal level
Your background and experience
  • A Bachelor\'s degree in Law.
  • A member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia.
  • 10 years of litigation and administrative law experience within the last 15 years, or equivalent with a demonstrated ability to conduct complex litigation as lead counsel
  • Demonstrated skills in leading, planning, organizing and delivering litigation services.
