Position Description

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Finance & Transformation, this Senior Manager role leads a multidisciplinary team in delivering timely and accurate consolidated internal and external financial reporting, supporting cash management activities, and overseeing accounting and reporting of the Hospital's pension plan and other investments. Importantly, this role is accountable for ensuring the integrity of financial information, effective stewardship of assets, and robust internal controls. The Senior Manager will partner with external stakeholders and cross-functional teams to drive process improvements and advance organizational objectives.

Here's What You'll Get To Do



Lead and coordinate the month-end reporting cycle, delivering consolidated financial information to internal stakeholders to drive strategic decision-making. Prepare information and presentations to the Senior Management Committee, the Board of Trustees, and its subcommittees. Lead financial accounting and reporting of the employee pension plans of the Hospital & CCMH, working closely with external actuaries to monitor to financial health of the plans. Lead the interim and year-end audits of the Hospital, the Hospital's pension plan, and the pension plan of SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health (CCMH). Oversee the Hospital's external financial reporting (Charity Information Returns, Tax Returns, Ministry of Health reports, etc.). Manage the preparation of quarterly information packages for the Investment & Pension Committee of the Board of Trustees, including reporting on investment manager performance, adherence to investment policy, pension plan considerations, and other key updates. Lead the preparation of multi-year investment, pension, and cash flow plans, and related monthly reconciliations and analysis. Manage the Hospital's relationship with external parties including custodians, banking partners, credit rating agencies, investment managers, pension administrators, actuaries, and external auditors. Monitor the Hospital's cash position and recommend short-term cash management investment strategies. Maintain expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), industry best practices, and public sector/not-for-profit accounting standards. Maintain effective internal controls by routinely identifying risk areas and implementing mitigation strategies. Provide leadership and coaching to staff, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive team environment. Pursue opportunities to manage team workload while ensuring the department meets the needs of the organization.

Here's What You'll Need



Essential Requirements



Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. Completion of a recognized accounting designation (CPA or equivalent). Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in financial accounting, reporting, and auditing. Minimum of 2 years in financial management, preferably in healthcare or the public sector. Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple complex projects and deliver on tight deadlines. Exceptional interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills, including strong presentation skills. Passion for process simplification and improvement, including an ability to challenge the status-quo and enact efficient process changes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information; Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.

Preferred Qualifications



Proficiency in large ERP systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Adaptive, Qlikview, PowerBI) Experience in healthcare or large public sector environment Familiarity with Pension Plans and the related regulatory environment; Knowledge of varied investment products and services and investment performance measurement is highly desirable.
