Overview of the Role





The Senior Manager, Employee Health will lead the strategic direction, operations, and culture of WestJet's Employee Health function. This role provides subject matter expertise, optimizes programs through data and technology, ensures compliance with provincial and federal obligations, and fosters a high performing, engaged team. The Senior Manager will collaborate across the organization to influence company-wide health initiatives, align disability strategies with broader business objectives, and serve as a trusted advisor on employee health and wellbeing.




Key Deliverables Include:




Lead all aspects of disability management, including but not limited to; complex claims, accommodations, and return-to-work programs. Ensure practices align with provincial/federal legislation (e.g., WCB, human rights) and reflect a fair, employee-centered approach. Design and deliver evidence-based strategies that support both physical and psychological health, reduce risks, and foster a psychologically safe, inclusive workplace culture. Leverage data, technology, and partnerships to improve efficiency and scalability of health programs. Identify internal risks, track external benchmarks, and drive innovation across health and disability initiatives. Serve as an expert advisor and organizational representative on employee health matters. Partner with leaders across business units to ensure compliance, reduce absenteeism, and embed health strategies into enterprise-wide initiatives. Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of up to 15 professionals, managing recruitment, coaching, development, and performance. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and innovative culture. Serve as a subject matter expert, providing clinical guidance and decision making on all aspects of disability management and employee health. Act as a clinical resource when primary providers are unavailable, ensuring that assessments, such as fitness-for-duty or fitness-to-fly evaluations, complex accommodation, or other cases as needed, are based on sound medical judgment, comply with regulatory standards, and promote safe, inclusive operations.



Experience and Qualifications:




Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences, Occupational Health, Nursing, or related discipline required. Master's Degree considered an asset. 7-10 years in health services, disability management, occupational health, or related field, including leadership of multi-disciplinary teams. In-depth knowledge of Canadian human rights, WCB, occupational health and safety, and disability legislation. Strong background in clinical/medical decision making, workplace health strategy, and program development. Exceptional leadership, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning abilities. Proven track record in operational improvement, innovation, and leveraging data for decision making. Professional credentials in Occupational Health, Disability Management, or Nursing considered an asset (e.g., COHN, CDMP, RN).
