Salary band: $72,272 - $90,340/year

The incumbent will work will work in collaboration with the Director, Emergency Management BC & Yukon and within a team of emergency management professionals. The Senior Manager, Emergency Operations will be the focal point for response readiness and oversight for all active operations in the Yukon.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and management oversight of CRC Emergency Management programs and operations in The Yukon Territory.
  • Develop, implement and monitor plans and budget related to CRC programs and operations in The Yukon, ensuring alignment with National DM strategic vision and agreement deliverables.
  • Oversee the implementation of municipal or territorial agreements and ensure human and material capacity to deliver on commitments and report back.
  • Lead initiatives for capacity building, preparedness, mobilization, and coordination of emergency operations for natural disasters, health, and social emergencies in The Yukon Territory.
  • Define requirements and contribute to the evolution of modalities to be utilized in surge capacity for human resources, systems requirements, logistics, and risk management.
  • Lead or support large-scale emergency response operations in the Territory.
  • Responsible to develops and maintains key strategic and operational relationships for response activation (Provincial Emergency
  • Management Organization, Disaster Psychosocial agencies, Ministry of Health, First Nations, other provincial and territorial government agencies, Public Safety Canada, and other organizations and agencies as required).
  • Directly supervise a team of employees, ensuring work plans are developed, monitored and achieved through ongoing two-way feedback.
What we are looking for:
  • Completion of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a related field, and a minimum of 5 to 8 years of job-related work experience in Emergency / Disaster Management or Community Development or Social Sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduate degree considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of current Emergency Management systems, practices, protocol.
  • Language \xe2\x80\x93 must be able to read, write and deliver services as appropriate to the operation in English or French. Additional languages considered an asset.
  • Leadership and Supervision \xe2\x80\x93 ability to manage change, motivate team members, have strong decision making and manage effective teams. Demonstrated ability in prioritization of responsibilities; able to give clear instructions and delegate, make informed decisions, ability to problem solve, provide coaching and feedback to staff & volunteers, support a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point) is required.
  • Project Management Skills \xe2\x80\x93 developing project charters, planning, scheduling, supply management, risk assessment, budgeting, change manager, project control.
  • Conflict Resolution Skills \xe2\x80\x93 active listening, mediations/negotiation, developing solutions & options with a win/win approach, appropriate assertiveness toward problems, managing emotions.
  • Budgeting Skills \xe2\x80\x93 forecast, build budgets, monitor, reporting, analyze variances.
  • Communication Skills \xe2\x80\x93 media interviews, clear & concise communication, confident, ability to influence others.
  • Coordination Skills \xe2\x80\x93 Champion collaborative opportunities, flow of information, strategic thinker, facilitation/mediation, meshing work plans/prioritizing.
  • A proven track record of working with diverse populations, and multicultural and Indigenous settings.
Working conditions:
  • The majority of the work is performed in an environment which is mostly clean and comfortable.
  • Able to work non-traditional hours and extended hours and respond to after hour emergency/disaster related requests.
  • Must be available to travel to response/recovery operations as required.
  • Potential for responding to disaster areas, as well as difficult and unstable conditions (environmental, physical, social, etc.) and uncomfortable conditions (noise, odors, smoke, humidity, vulnerable beneficiaries). If working in a response site, health and safety considerations will be outlined prior to the assignment.
  • Travel within Canada required, travel internationally may be an option.
