Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto\xe2\x80\x99s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. We are looking for a Senior Manager, Community Engagement who would provide leadership and direction for the development and implementation of community and stakeholder relations planning and issues management activities relating to Metrolinx\xe2\x80\x99 Capital Projects in a specific region within the GTHA. What will I be doing?
  • Manages and leads the establishment, implementation and execution of community and stakeholder relationship strategies, plans and initiatives with respect to GO stations to maximize the impact of external relations and promote Metrolinx\xe2\x80\x99 Capital Projects, particularly GO Transit
  • Directs and manages the development and implementation of strategies to enhance relationships with a variety of critical external stakeholders including but not limited to all levels of government, special interest groups, media and the public, to promote understanding, acceptance, and support for current or future projects within the region
  • Works with counterparts across the GTHA regions to develop and implement consistent messaging that aligns with Metrolinx\xe2\x80\x99 mandate and Capital Projects Group goals and objectives
  • Represents Metrolinx at meetings with senior officials in all levels of government such as MPPs, mayors, regional counsellors and other elected officials to manage issues and ensure mutual understanding and garner long-term support and buy-in for Metrolinx\xe2\x80\x99 Capital Projects within the region
  • Acts as a resource to provide consultation, direction, advice and guidance regarding community relations and stakeholder relations and other complex issues
  • Leads all community and stakeholder relations functions, in order to educate and engage local and broader communities about Metrolinx Capital Projects, and ensure they have an understanding of the project(s), planning, design and future construction schedule
  • Works with senior transit officials, elected officials, and senior governmental and third-party staff, to ensure their requirements are addressed
  • Attends public meetings to present and discuss project details and engage in conversations about plans, designs and to address concerns/issues
What skills & qualifications do I need?
  • Completion of a degree in Communications, Business Administration or a related discipline \xe2\x80\x93 or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
  • Minimum ten (10) years\xe2\x80\x99 progressively senior experience developing and implementing strategic community relations and stakeholder relations activities, including issues management
  • Knowledge of and experience in community and stakeholder relationship concepts and methodologies to lead and drive the development and delivery of strategic community relations plans and related activities
  • Issues analysis and issues management methodologies to identify critical issues and trends and develop comprehensive contingency and positioning plans
  • Political sensitivity in developing Metrolinx\xe2\x80\x99 Capital Projects community and stakeholder relations position and ensuring its accurate representation to other levels of government and communities within a region; requires the ability to assess the political implications and sensitivity of a wide range of issues
  • Innovation and creativity to translate strategies into action plans and outputs and to generate new concepts in meeting community and stakeholder needs while also meeting the needs of the Metrolinx and Capital Projects Group
  • Interpersonal and networking skills along with tact and diplomacy to work collaboratively and convey a leadership position with a broad cross-section of government and non-government groups, the public and media
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to liaise with senior transit officials, elected officials, and senior government and third-party staff to address their requirements; to present project information to community groups at public meetings; to clearly convey ideas and listen to others; to address the media; oversee the production of communication material by the unit
