The Senior Manager Commercial Real Estate (VCIB) provides leadership surrounding lending activities and compliance with all legislation, regulations, by-laws, policies and procedures. In this role you will be fully qualified to identify, develop and support the overall growth of VCIB?s impact real estate business and the objectives of VCIB as a team leader. Leading a team of account managers, you have strong experience in commercial real estate lending, financial statement analysis, credit/risk assessment, long-term relationship building skills and people management. This competitively rewarded role will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location In Toronto and your home office. Periodically, in-person events or activities will be required of you. A typical day would involve:

  • Oversee the structuring and approval of LOIs, credit applications, loan renewals, fundings and annual reviews by working with Senior Business Development Manager, Senior Account Managers, Account Managers and Loan Portfolio Manager.
  • Lead a team of account managers to support the growth and development of each account manager and the team
  • Lead all onboarding, training and development plans for new direct reports
  • Build and maintain solid and equitable relationships with our colleagues in Credit Risk and Vancity Credit Union
  • Drive process improvements to improve internal efficiency and client experience
  • Support the Director, Commercial Real Estate in strategic planning for your line of business; execute on new product and channel development
  • Act as first line of defense on compliance and annual reviews of existing clients with financial and reporting covenants and identify/manage risks in collaboration with Account Managers
  • Contribute to VCIB thought leadership as we seek to position ourselves as a leading financial institution for mission-driven investors
  • Prepare timely reports for Senior Management, the Board of Directors and external regulators, such as quarterly watchlist reports, closely monitored reports and any ad hoc reports or analysis required

You have:
  • 5-10 years real estate lending experience (experience in construction and CMHC-insured lending an asset)
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • MBA and/or bachelor degree in finance, real estate or equivalent

  • Results-oriented: You are a self-starter and resourceful in overcoming obstacles. You have a demonstrated ability to uncover insights, generate appropriate solutions, and advance your deliverables on time, on budget, with attention to quality of outcomes.
