Purpose

The Senior BOCS Manager contributes to the overall success of Scotiatrust/ Canadian Wealth Management ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the Scotiatrust National Office Oversight team\'s business strategies and objectives. The incumbent is responsible for leading and coaching a team to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to provide effective oversight and risk management. The incumbent also ensures all activities conducted are client focused and in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Key Accountabilities

Develops and executes the Oversight team plans by:

  • Performing, monitoring and testing controls for effective risk management in both fiduciary and agency accounts, including account reviews, control account reviews, and all risk management reports (overdrafts, new business, real estate, private business interests, tax);
  • Creating system queries and reports necessary to facilitate the oversight of Scotiatrust branches located in their region and coordinating reporting across the country;
  • Participating in on-site reviews of branch administration to ensure compliance with policies and procedures;
  • Optimizing reporting and efficiency of oversight function, including identifying opportunities for designing, modifying and implementing improved processes or reporting within an effective operations structure which will be based on the service requirements of the trust branches;
  • Utilizing enablers (e.g., dashboard reporting, Power BI, etc.) and supporting the adoption of new tools, technologies and process to effectively manage Oversight;
  • Working with branch management to address any non-compliance or control deficiency. Executes the risk management strategy by:
  • Understanding how the Bank\'s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions, through the National Office Discretionary Powers Council;
  • Limiting corporate risk exposure by ensuring that account administration is carried out in compliance with defined policies and procedures and audit standards, including escalation of issues to National Office
  • Maintaining a high degree of working knowledge of regulatory and legislative requirements in all jurisdictions in Canada;
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and compliance requirements including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing, FATCA, QI, CRS, CASL;
  • Overseeing the implementation of regulatory changes.
Leads the Branch Oversight Team by:
  • Providing leadership to motivate individual and team performance;
  • Fostering and developing a strong, positive team environment, driving employee empowerment, innovation and a high degree of engagement;
  • Driving the internal communications process by ensuring all employees are aware of key projects, corporate goals and ongoing critical changes affecting clients; exhibiting an ability to listen, negotiate and communicate goals;
  • Ensuring the performance management process is in place and employee development is a priority for all employees on the team;
  • Sharing knowledge, experience and responsibility with employees in a drive for the highest standards of professionalism and service excellence;
  • Regularly scheduling one-on-one coaching with direct reports;
  • Identifying a supporting training and developmental needs of team members and participation in the development of training programs;
  • Managing staffing requirements;.
  • Champions a client focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Contributes to the effective functioning of Scotiatrust by:
  • Building effective working relationships across the team and with various business lines and functions;
  • Facilitating a culture of open and honest communication by actively participating and contributing to touchbases, team meetings, encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches and actively sharing knowledge and experience to exchange the development of all team members;
  • Developing and executing a meaningful employee development plan.

Education / Experience / Other Information (include only those that are specific to the role)
  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma preferred
  • Extensive experience in the Estate and Trust industry
  • Knowledge of branch regulations, policies, procedures, operations and functions to ensure branch operates within audit requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory compliance related to Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing, QI, FATCA, CRS requirements
  • TEP designation would be an asset
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal communication and negotiation skills and professionalism
  • Strong change management skills and ability to adopt technology and reporting platform changes to support operational and reporting improvements.
