Position Overview
The Senior Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the maintenance, reliability, and optimal performance of production equipment, facility systems, and utilities. This role requires advanced troubleshooting skills, execution of preventive maintenance, and mentoring of junior team members. The technician plays a key role in maintaining operational efficiency and ensuring compliance with food safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform advanced troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance on production machinery, conveyors, packaging equipment, boilers, refrigeration systems, and facility infrastructure.
Diagnose and resolve issues related to mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and steam systems.
Implement and manage preventive maintenance programs to enhance equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
Install, modify, and upgrade production equipment as required.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior maintenance staff, promoting knowledge-sharing and skill development.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality Assurance, Warehouse, and Health & Safety to support operational goals.
Oversee and maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, and materials needed for both scheduled and emergency maintenance tasks.
Accurately document all maintenance activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety, GMP, HACCP, and FSSC 22000 standards and protocols.
Assist with general facility repairs, small renovations, and miscellaneous handyman tasks as required.
Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, safety, and equipment performance.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably within the food manufacturing or processing industry.
Solid understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fluid transfer, and steam systems.
Hands-on experience with motors, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, packaging equipment, and automated machinery.
Ability to interpret and work from technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
Demonstrated leadership skills, including experience mentoring or supervising junior team members.
Proficient in implementing and performing preventive maintenance tasks.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with PLCs and control systems is an asset.
Possession of a 5th Class Power Engineer certificate not required but is an asset.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift heavy objects, bend, twist, crouch, and work in confined spaces.
Comfortable working at heights and standing for extended periods.
Able to work in various temperatures and wet or slippery conditions.
Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
