Salary: The salary range for this position is CAD $59.56/Hr. - CAD $85.62/Hr.
Summary:



Reporting to the Director, Nursing Education, the Senior Leader, Nursing Education Strategies is a leader, an innovator, knowledge translator and change agent accountable for promoting excellence in nursing practice education, which is critical in order for Providence Health Care (PHC) to meet its mandate to provide services and care.




The Senior Leader, Nursing Education Strategies:Contributes to the highest quality of patient care through strategic leadership in education in knowledge translation from theory to practice and ensuring that education programs and supports reflect best practice and are evidence-based, high-quality and supported by available technologies and resources. Supervises practice supports such as Nurse Educators, Clinical Mentors and Employed Student Nurses and project teams and holds the operational accountability for the following programs for all of PHC: Employed Student Nurses, Clinical Mentors, Internationally Educated Nursing and Specialty Education Nursing. Collaborates with a wide variety of people internal and external to PHC, including practice educators, licensing boards/colleges, educational institutions, provincial, operational, clinical and professional practice leaders to: identify desired practice outcomes; develop, implement and monitor work plans/projects. Functions as a systems leader and change agent, and is responsible for providing leadership, consultation and direction for nursing practice education across PHC. This includes liaising with clinicians, leaders and partners as well as representing PHC practice education in decision making forums. May represent PHC education on provincial, national and international basis at various forums.

What You Bring:

Education, Training and Experience:

Master's Degree in Nursing, Education, or a related field, plus seven (7) years of clinical experience in health care or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Registration in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a practicing RN registrant or a practicing RPN registrant.

Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to design, develop and implement learning needs assessments, curriculum, learning materials, a broad repertoire of teaching techniques, practice integration strategies, and evaluation plans. Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of education supporting the use of a variety of delivery formats including distance delivery technologies. Demonstrated project planning and management skills. Ability to lead and guide experienced staff in education matters and speak to practice education issues with staff and leaders. Facilitation of organizational priority and goal setting, coordinated and collaborative planning and implementation. Current knowledge of regulatory bodies and other health care disciplines and their role in client care. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to understand and communicate effectively with team members and others at various levels of the organization. Aptitude for progressive, innovative thinking. Application of competency-based education models. Advertising and effective promotion of education initiatives. Leadership through coaching and development of staff and modeling key behaviors. Ability to work with emerging technologies. Demonstrated experience in system development and implementation; evaluation; and leadership.

A competitive salary:

$116,591 - $167,700 per year, depending on experience.

Your Day to Day:

Supervises practice supports including Nurse Educators, Clinical Mentors and Employed Student Nurses, prioritizing and assigning work, reviewing performance and recruiting staff for these roles. Oversees the hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and other HR operational responsibilities. Provides education leadership, guidance and support to all practice supports and program educators through coaching, guiding and modeling key behaviors/strategies, encouraging dialogue and problem solving and providing guidance and advice to facilitate resolutions to education issues. Works collaboratively with operational leaders, practice educators, and staff to identify clinical education needs and priorities, and individually or as leader of a team, plans, implements and evaluates strategies to meet those needs. Contributes to the development, implementation and maintenance of competency-based learning models for orientation and continuing education of staff, integrating these with professional practice standards and the performance management process. Responsible for assuring the development and updating of resources to support such education in order to assure staff competency and development. Collaborates with the Director and other members of the team by providing information regarding current clinical issues and priorities, proposing recommendations which will advance education in a manner consistent with the overall strategic direction as well as current priorities. Provides leadership for specific projects to address organizational practice education needs, including use of new educational technologies, educator professional development workshops, support/training for preceptors, integration of education into practice, and education research. Provides guidance for the student placement coordinator with regard to seeking out and identifying new opportunities for student placement in Specialty areas, guides practice educators to support preceptors to assure quality practice education experiences within Specialty areas. Develops specific proposals for internal and external funding to meet practice education needs. Maintains and shares knowledge of current trends in education and health care by reviewing literature, attending relevant conferences/continuing education, liaising with external organizations and members of professional associations, staff, and colleagues, and keeping abreast of educational technologies and applications. Participates in internal, local, provincial and national committees/projects on an ongoing basis. Develops and informs budgets and monitors expenditures for the nursing education department, ensuring deliverables are within available budget.
