Job Description

Job Summary



The Senior Interior Designer leads the development and execution of interior design concepts. They collaborate with architects, clients, and consultant teams to ensure that design elements align with functional requirements, aesthetics, and regulatory standards. They oversee interior design concept development, selecting materials, finishes, and furnishings, ensuring that designs comply with building codes, safety regulations, and accessibility standards. They oversee detailed design documentation and oversee the installation of interior elements, as well as conduct site visits to ensure project execution aligns with the design vision. On interior projects, the Senior Interior Designer will manage project tasks, workloads, and schedules for successful project delivery.

Duties



Design Leadership and Development

Lead the development of design concepts for interiors, from initial brainstorming through to finalized concepts. Manage the selection of materials, finishes, furniture, and colour schemes, ensuring they align with the project vision and client goals. Oversee the preparation of visualizations, detailed design documentation, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and specifications. Allocate tasks to the Interior Designer, ensuring projects are assigned based on individual skill sets, workload capacity, and project deadlines. Provide mentorship and guidance to interior designers, reviewing their work and ensuring quality and design consistency across projects. Gives guidance on interior direction as it relates to design trends, new materials, and industry advancements.
Project Management and Client Relations (as required)

Plan and coordinate projects by developing and managing tasks, workloads, and schedules to ensure successful project delivery through all design phases. Present design concepts and proposals to clients, AHJ, and in public presentations, addressing feedback, managing expectations, and maintaining strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle. Facilitate design reviews, coordinate with consultants, and refine design concepts while ensuring accurate and timely delivery of reports, drawings, and technical documentation. Monitor project progress, address potential risks, and adjust plans as needed to keep projects on schedule and aligned with objectives. Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and project teams, attend construction kick-offs and resolve design-related issues during construction. Manage project close-out, addressing deficiencies, reviewing warranty items, archiving documentation, coordinating marketing materials, collecting client feedback, and summarizing lessons learned.
Project Coordination

Oversee coordinate with external suppliers, contractors, and vendors to source materials, obtain samples, and manage product deliveries.
Construction

Oversee the preparation construction documents for permit applications related to interior design components. Conduct site visits to ensure that the interior design elements are being executed according to plan and resolve any on-site issues. Oversee the preparation of submittal reviews, field reviews, and other administrative tasks during construction.
Leadership, Team Development, and General Responsibilities

Mentor interior designers, sharing best practices and technical skills. Support team training and professional development. Foster teamwork and continuous improvement within the department. Implement quality assurance processes and documentation standards. Track and report work hours accurately and participate in required team meetings.

Qualifications



Bachelor's degree or diploma in interior design from an accredited institution. Registered Interior Designer (RID) or NCIDQ designation or eligibility for registration through a recognized body, such as the Interior Designers Institute of British Columbia (IDIBC). 8+ years of experience in interior design, with a strong portfolio showcasing completed projects across commercial, residential, or institutional settings. Experience managing project timelines and workplans to meet expectations and deadlines. Knowledge of local building codes, safety regulations, and accessibility standards as it relates to interior design.
