HVAC Trainer - Heat Pump & HVAC Systems

Location

Ontario (with travel to contractors / partner sites / field)

Position Summary

The HVAC Trainer will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs for contractors, installers, service technicians and sales partners on HVAC systems (including heat pumps, split systems, hot-water heat pump systems). The role involves both technical instruction (installation, commissioning, troubleshooting) and commercial/market education (product features, value propositions, energy-efficiency, regulatory requirements). The Trainer will work closely with the sales & channel team to support product launches, certifications, and knowledge building.

Key Responsibilities

Develop training materials, modules, tutorials (both classroom/presentation and hands-on field/bench). Deliver training sessions (workshops, webinars, on-site field training) to contractors, builders, developers, service teams and sales channels. Demonstrate product installations, commissioning routines, preventive maintenance, and fault-finding for HVAC/heat-pump systems. Monitor and assess trainee progress: quizzes, practical assessments, certification checks. Update training content regularly to reflect latest product specs, regulatory/energy-efficiency standards, market trends (e.g., electrification, decarbonization). Provide feedback to product, sales and marketing teams on field/contractor feedback, training gaps and technical support needs. Serve as a technical ambassador for the brand: respond to field/contractor questions, support troubleshooting escalations. Travel to customer sites, partner facilities, and trade shows as required. Maintain records of training sessions, attendance, certifications, and follow-up support. Foster positive learning environment, encourage adoption of best practices in installation & service (installation quality, safety, efficiency).
Qualifications & Skills

Required:



Strong hands-on technical experience in HVAC systems--installation, servicing, maintenance of heat pumps, split systems, refrigeration or AC systems. Good understanding of HVAC/HP systems, controls, piping, electrical, refrigerants, commissioning practices. (For Ontario, familiarity with the trade Skilled Trades Ontario frameworks is a plus. Skilled Trades Ontario+2Job Bank+2) Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable presenting technical content to contractors, sales, and non-technical audiences. Ability to design instructional content and training modules (slides, practical labs, hand-outs). Willingness to travel and work flexible hours (field training, sometimes off-site or weekend). Valid driver's licence, travel readiness.

Preferred:



Prior experience as instructor/trainer or technical educator in HVAC, mechanical trades or similar. (Templates suggest 3-5 years of instruction experience helpful. HRBlade) Certifications or credentials in HVAC, refrigeration or related trades (Journeyperson status, refrigeration license, HVAC certificate). Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), virtual training delivery (webinars, remote). Strong knowledge of current trends: heat pumps, decarbonization in buildings, energy-efficiency regulations. Bilingual (English/French) is an asset for Canadian market. Experience in curriculum development, assessment design, and evaluating training outcomes.
Working Conditions

Combination of classroom training environment and on-site field visits. Some travel within Ontario (and potentially outside) to partner sites, contractor locations, trade shows. Carrying demonstration equipment, tools; working in mechanical rooms, construction sites. Some training may require working evenings or weekends to accommodate contractor schedules. Training group sizes may vary: small groups (5-10) or larger workshops (20+).
Performance Metrics

Number of training sessions delivered, number of attendees/certified trainees. Trainee feedback (quality/satisfaction scores). Improvement in contractor/installer proficiency (before/after assessment). Reduction in installation/service issues (fault-calls) attributable to training. Contribution to product adoption/market share via improved installer confidence. Maintenance of up-to-date training materials and tracking of training records.
