Job Summary
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Senior Human Resource Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources operations in compliance with regulatory requirements and in alignment with GNN's culture, values and strategic goals while ensuring a positive, productive, healthy and efficient workplace environment.
This is a full-time (35 hours per week) temporary position covering a maternity leave for a period of approximately 12 months. The expected start date is January 19, 2025 and the contract is expected to finish January 19, 2026 with possible extension. The Senior Human Resource Manager is expected to work onsite and hybrid if needed at GNN's office located on Tsulquate Reserve. Regular office hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
This position plays an important role in fostering a culturally respectful, inclusive, and supportive workplace that upholds GNN values and Human Rights, while ensuring organizational policies, finance guidelines, and legal obligations are consistently met.
Responsibilities
The Senior HR Manager is expected to:
Oversee operations, programs and services in the Human Resources Department in accordance with applicable laws and GNN policies.
Promote a work environment that cultivates accountability, transparency, collaboration, positive work ethic, employee engagement and service to community in alignment with GNN culture and values.
Develop and support initiatives that foster a culturally safe, respectful, inclusive and supportive workplace for all employees.
Supervise HR programs and campaigns, including recruitment and onboarding, collaborating effectively with other HR team members and leadership for a productive outcome and better targeting of organizational goals
Develop and maintain an organized departmental database and record-keeping system, including confidential personnel records, in accordance with applicable laws and best practices.
Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and oversee staff training and education to ensure compliance.
Analyze departmental performance metrics and devise strategies for improved organizational productivity.
Manage and promote Occupational Health and Safety programs and employee wellness initiatives to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and a safe and respectful workplace.
Research and develop strategies to recruit and retain knowledgeable and skillful candidates.
Assist with payroll administration.
Develop and administer compensation and benefits programs to ensure competitive total rewards packages and employee fulfillment.
Facilitate healthy employee relations through effective onboarding, continuing professional development programs, performance management, conflict resolution, investigations, and appropriate disciplinary actions.
Manage the labor-related issues like code of conduct, ethics, employee retention, and policy adherence
Mandatory Qualifications:
Bachelor's or master's degree in human resources, business administration, or management.
Minimum 5 years experience as a Human Resources Manager.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a junior Human Resources Manager.
Knowledge and understanding of HR best practices and relevant legislation, including federal and provincial employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety and labour relations.
Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication and people management.
Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed approaches to HR matters.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Certified human resource professional with a specialization in management.
Knowledge of GNN's language, culture, history and customs, experience working with Indigenous governments, communities or organizations and/or familiarity with Indigenous cultures, traditions and systemic issues impacting Indigenous peoples.
Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
Effective problem-solving, critical and strategic thinking.
Strong business acumen.
Applied knowledge of human resource management and Xyntax system
Ability to thrive in a complex and agile work environment.
Willingness to travel for recruitment campaigns,
Friendly, supportive, and approachable behavior,
Demonstrated project management experience,
Growth mindset and committed to continuous learning,
Skills to lead and support necessary changes in organizational culture.
