ENC Testing has a career opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Materials Technician in our Cold Lake, Alberta office.

Position Description:



We are seeking a motivated individual who has a minimum of 7-10 years' experience providing geotechnical services (soils, concrete, construction inspection, etc.) for civil engineering works associated with civil, municipal and First Nations projects. The position is intended to transition to a Geotechnical Project Coordinator position based on experience and exposure to staff leadership and management.

Position Duties:



Provide senior level material testing and quality control/assurance testing for various civil, municipal and transportation projects. Assist with management of geotechnical materials testing laboratory and field material testing staff. Provide mentorship and oversight of junior geotechnical material testing technicians. Conduct and oversee lab testing on soils, aggregate and asphalt to applicable industry standards (ie proctors, sieve analysis, moisture contents, Atterberg limits, Marshall density, gyratory compaction, etc.). Conduct field compaction testing on soil and granular materials utilizing a portable nuclear gauge. Conduct field concrete testing to CCIL/CSA standards including slump, air content and casting of test cylinders. Oversee and monitor the placement of soil and granular materials and subsequent nuclear gauge compaction testing including safe operation, storage, transportation, and maintenance of nuclear densometer. Conduct proof roll and performance inspections of sub-grade and granular structures. Assist with geotechnical analyses for slope stability, settlement and foundation design. Assist with geotechnical reports for a variety of projects (municipal, commercial, industrial, residential, transportation, resource industry, utilities, buildings). Assist with geotechnical drilling programs utilizing MacroCore and auger drilling methods for soil sampling, investigation and assessment. Perform field engineering technical services for pile installation, site remediation, footing installation and materials testing. Properly identify/classify soil types for soil and material samples. Receiving, logging, handling, storage and disposal of material test samples. Cleaning, maintenance, repair and calibrating personal test equipment to CCIL/CSA standards. Troubleshoot technical issues in the field to consistently deliver high quality results. Effectively communicate with clients, colleagues, and management.

Qualifications:



Post-secondary graduate of an accredited university degree, technology program or equivalent 7 to 10 years of related experience (soils, concrete, construction inspection, etc.). Extensive knowledge of geotechnical materials testing and soil sampling procedures. Experience and knowledge with Geotechnical drilling, settlement analyses, slope stability assessments, and civil construction, would be an asset. Previous leadership or supervisory experience within the geotechnical role. Valid Class 5 Drivers License with a minimum of 4 years verified Canadian driving experience. Ability to successfully complete Portable Nuclear Gauge & TDG Training, WHMIS and CSTS Training and all other required training designations. Professional designation with APEGA or ASET is considered an asset. Ability to work extended hours (overtime) during construction season including weekends. Strong interpersonal skills and professional written and verbal English communication skills. Ability to work well in a group environment as well as are highly self-motivated as most of the field work is independent. Multi-tasker and innovative creative thinker to effectively solve problems. Successful track record of working within a high standard of conduct, balancing quality and quantity in work performance. Results orientated with strong workplace safety practices.
