Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Dynamic Earth Solutions group (DES) in our Halifax, NS office. Hatch\'s DES - Geotechnical Group undertakes investigations, studies, and design as part of our geotechnical services for all types of mining, energy, and infrastructure projects. The geotechnical group is a global practice providing geotechnical and geological expertise to Hatch\'s business units. Our capability spans through the whole project lifecycle, comprising scoping, conceptual design, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, basic and detailed engineering, construction, and project management.
This is senior role and an excellent career opportunity for someone with extensive geotechnical experience. This person will have excellent project and team leadership skills with equally strong client relationship management and business development skills. The person for this role will be a business leader, team builder, and will be able to leverage their network of contacts to grow the business locally.
As the successful candidate, you will:
\xc2\xb7 Be given opportunities to work on interesting and complex geotechnical projects and collaborate with diverse teams locally, nationally, and globally.
\xc2\xb7 Lead advanced geotechnical studies with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope.
\xc2\xb7 Identify project works that can add to the geotechnical field and where possible write a paper/participate in conferences.
\xc2\xb7 Identify scoping requirements and lead proposals.
\xc2\xb7 Participate in, contribute to, and/or lead design reviews.
\xc2\xb7 Represent the discipline in the project\'s engineering coordination meetings.
\xc2\xb7 Provide and/or coordinate training for resources assigned to the project.
\xc2\xb7 Prepare and/or review project procedures, technical specifications, and design criteria.
\xc2\xb7 Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior engineers, intermediate engineers, senior engineers, designers, technicians, and technologists.
\xc2\xb7 Ensure relevant technical experts are involved in the design process as required and facilitate the sharing of technical expertise both across projects and across Hatch offices globally.
\xc2\xb7 Perform conceptual and detailed engineering design.
\xc2\xb7 Undertake office and field based geotechnical engineering for projects.
\xc2\xb7 Provide specialist geotechnical advice and analytical services.
\xc2\xb7 Contribute to/or review engineering calculations where required.
\xc2\xb7 Contribute to/or review technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise.
\xc2\xb7 Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
\xc2\xb7 Stamp documents and drawings as required and if appropriately registered.
\xc2\xb7 Undertake construction supervision and management dependent upon project demands.
\xc2\xb7 Support of site engineering team to provide technical solutions and timely response to technical queries.
\xc2\xb7 Work to ensure the implementation of safety in design and integrity principles in design documentation.
You bring to the role:
\xc2\xb7 A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering (geotechnical focus), Geological Engineering, or Engineering Geology from an accredited university. Post graduate education would be preferred.
\xc2\xb7 12 to 15+ years\' of relevant post graduate geotechnical experience
\xc2\xb7 Registered or eligible to register with Engineers Nova Scotia
\xc2\xb7 Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, while maintaining excellent client focus
\xc2\xb7 Leadership skills with proven ability to mentor and develop staff
\xc2\xb7 History of successful business development
\xc2\xb7 A strong focus on both safety and quality
\xc2\xb7 Significant geotechnical experience with energy, mining, and/or infrastructure projects locally
\xc2\xb7 Broad based and extensive experience including investigation, design, and construction.
\xc2\xb7 Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
\xc2\xb7 Outstanding planning and organizational skills
\xc2\xb7 Ability to travel within Canada and internationally on short-term assignments as required.
