We are growing and looking for a Senior Geostructural Engineer to join us in Halifax, NS with a strong background in solving geotechnical and geostructural problems, and who is a motivated team player and leader to join and support our geotechnical design team. You will play a key technical role in a wide variety of Transportation, Water and Energy infrastructures projects in Canada and across the globe via the One GHD unique approach for a broad diversity of clients from proposal to delivery stages.

The successful candidate will be expected to :

  • Prove technical leadership, and carry out geotechnical and geostructural engineering analysis, design and reporting.
  • Lead preparation and reviews of technical proposals, reports, drawings and specifications.
  • Support business development and client maintenance through development of proposals and qualification packages.
  • Be a collaborative project leader both in the pursuit and delivery phase of the projects.
  • Lead and mentor junior and intermediate staff in the development of technical analysis and design, reports and all design and construction documentation.
  • Provide expertise and support for geotechnical/geostructural engineering aspects of projects throughout the design, tendering, and construction stages including:
+ Static and dynamic soil-structure interaction analyses;
+ Stress-strain deformation and settlement analyses;
+ Geostructural design numerical analysis including complex soil and rock constitutive models and structural elements components.
+ Geotechnical and geostructural foundations design (shallow, raft and deep piles, drilled shaft, caissons,.etc..) for structures including buildings, bridges, embankments, transmission tower, wind tower, etc.
+ Soil improvement technics design such as CMC, micro-piles, dynamic-compaction, vibro methods, etc.
+ Support of excavation for temporary and permanent shafts
+ Tunnelling and trenchless geostructural analysis on underground projects, including cavern, hard rock, NATM/SEM, etc.
+ Engineered fills and MSE/SoilNail walls systems.
+ Construction groundwater control/dewatering requirements
+ Slope stability and embankment assessments

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
  • Experience with Detailed Design, Design Build and Owner\xe2\x80\x99s Engineer is a strong asset;
  • Geotechnical seismic design including site specific response analysis, liquefaction analysis, fully coupled dynamic soil-structure interaction analysis and geostructural foundation design is a strong asset;
  • Advanced capability in numerical modelling using Flac, Plaxis, RS2/3, Group/LPile, DeepXcav, Leapfrog, and other advanced capable geotechnical and geostructural software suits is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency with current geotechnical software applications including GeoStudio (Slope/W, Sigma/W, etc.) and Rocscience (Slide2/3, Settle3), gInt and CADD.
  • Knowledge of working with relevant software such as gINT, CADD, MicroStation, MS Office and GeoStudio (Slope/W, etc)
  • University degree in Geotechnical, Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering, preferably Masters degree in engineering;
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the field of geotechnical and geostrucutural engineering;
  • Desire to provide excellent practical client service and a commitment to technical excellence
  • Must be well organized, have the ability to work as a team, manage and prioritize several assignments at one time, deliver on time and on budget
