This key role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, regulatory compliance, cost control, and provides strategic financial support to business operations. The ideal candidate will bring deep financial expertise, operational acumen, and a strong understanding of international trade and manufacturing cost structures.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
Oversee day-to-day finance and accounting operations including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, payroll, billing, and tax.
Deliver timely and accurate financial statements in compliance with corporate policies and local regulations.
Manage cash flow and working capital, ensuring sufficient liquidity and meeting financial targets.
Provide forecasting, variance analysis, and financial recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
Lead the preparation and coordination of external audits to ensure clean and timely outcomes.
Support capital investment decisions by preparing ROI analysis and advising on local accounting treatment.
Import/Export Compliance & Trade Finance
Manage financial aspects of import/export activities including duties, tariffs, freight, and brokerage.
Ensure accurate preparation of customs documentation and compliance with CBSA and international trade regulations.
Coordinate with logistics and procurement to ensure correct classification and valuation of goods.
Monitor and manage foreign exchange exposure; recommend and support hedging strategies as needed.
Governance, Risk & Internal Controls
Ensure compliance with all tax, legal, and regulatory financial reporting requirements.
Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and support audit readiness.
Work with banks, legal counsel, tax advisors, and insurers to proactively manage financial and operational risks.
Identify and escalate financial or legal exposures including customs issues, supplier disputes, and liability risks.
Support the business in developing contingency plans for financial disruptions, supply chain risks, or system failures.
Strategic & Operational Finance
Collaborate with business leaders to optimize costs, improve productivity, and guide capital expenditure decisions.
Develop and maintain manufacturing costing models for margin analysis and inventory valuation.
Support continuous improvement in financial systems, tools, and reporting processes.
Participate in ERP and system upgrades, ensuring finance and operations are fully integrated.
Contribute to corporate initiatives such as budgeting, forecasting, consolidations, and intercompany transactions.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent designation required.
5+ years of progressive financial experience in manufacturing, engineering, or distribution sectors.
Strong knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP, and Canadian accounting standards.
Proven experience in financial reporting, cash management, forecasting, and compliance.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and cloud-based ERP systems; system implementation experience preferred.
Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to influence business decisions.
Solid understanding of international trade finance, customs, and foreign exchange exposure.
