OverviewAre you passionate about budgeting, financial reporting, and financial analysis? Do you want to make a difference in British Columbia? We are looking for two Senior Financial Analysts to join the Corporate Finance department and supervise daily operations in the accounting functions.In this role, youll use your strong knowledge of both accounting and business operations to analyze and provide input into improvements to the departments daily operations, as well as our financial accounting and reporting processes.This is a temporary role for 12 months.How youll make a difference: Youll help protect the financial integrity of B.C.s workers compensation system.Where youll workAt WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.What you'll do

  • Provide work direction and set priorities for the general accounting or administrative payable and receivable teams, and provide training and technical assistance to team members as necessary
  • Manage the financial accounting records including maintenance of the General Ledger system
  • Assist in the preparation of our audited financial statements for inclusion in the annual report in compliance with IFRS, AWCBC, and other industry standards for presentation to internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements for presentations to the Board of Directors, Audit Committee, and Senior Executive Committee
  • Manage the accounts of all self-insured employers in the province, including overseeing billing procedures
  • Manage tax-related functions and liaise with the CRA and the Provincial Tax Authority on GST/PST and T5007 matters
  • Review and evaluate payment procedures and systems, and implement corrective actions for accounts payable or receivable problems
  • Review and analyze investment data and generate reports pertaining to our investment portfolio and develop ad hoc investment-related reports
  • Administer the program for review, approval, processing, monitoring, and accounting of funding and payments related to industry-funded programs

  • Use specialist knowledge of advanced financial accounting principles and financial recording
  • Apply management accounting theory (e.g., prepare budgets, use financial analytical tools)
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain financial books of account
  • Apply applicable tax legislation in an operating environment
  • Provide quality customer service with diplomacy and professionalism
Your background and experience
  • A professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • A minimum of three years of related experience in research and analysis in any of the following areas: financial, tax, investment, or accounting
  • Knowledge of financial policies and procedures and business process risk and control procedures
  • Supervisory experience within a unionized environment is preferred

  • Extra 4% of your salary in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation from the day you start
