Senior Financial Analyst Capital & Taxes

POSITION SUMMARY The Senior Financial Analyst will be primarily responsible for supporting the Finance department from a financial and accounting perspective through month end close activities, including the presentation of financial information and providing reliable information and analysis, on a timely basis. Specifically, this position will lead the regulated and unregulated capital operations from a budget, forecasting and reporting perspective, provide guidance and support to junior staff and will be the main support for corporate taxes across all entities. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES CAPITAL

  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end close procedures, including preparation of journal entries, posting recurring and non-recurring accounting journals, and monthly account reconciliations in accordance with IFRS reporting standards;
  • Prepare and maintain the Fixed Asset subledger, including preparation of fixed asset continuity schedules, capital expenditure reports and analysis (budget to actual comparatives) and all related reconciliations;
  • Lead capital budgeting & forecasting process and assist with budgeting related activities;
  • Lead monthly capital meetings with managers and executives;
  • Prepare Project Monitoring Committee (Board Sub-Committee) report for Managing Director;
  • Review various capital/non- capital billables related reconciliations on a monthly basis;
  • Assist Distribution System Plan (DSP) capital team with annual budget preparation, forecasting and 5 year plan;
  • Prepare all economic evaluations and close out of Subdivision related jobs;
  • Oversee all capital retirements/disposals and book adjustments to Fixed Assets sub ledger as required;
  • Run depreciation on monthly basis in Fixed Assets sub ledger;
  • Reconcile Fixed asset module in Great Plains to GL Accounts;
  • Lead for all capital inquiries for external, interim and year end audit;
  • Prepare all regulatory filings related to capital;
  • Review and approve all new jobs set up and job closures;
  • Review and approve all fixed asset uploads to Fixed Assets module in Great Plains;
  • Provide capital cash flow reporting on a quarterly basis to Manager, FP&A;
  • Oversee all capital transformer adjustments as per IFRS and book adjustments as required;
  • Review Overhead allocations (Store Inventory overheads, Labour overheads and Vehicle overheads) on a quarterly basis and true up as necessary;
  • Prepare year end accruals for completed capital jobs;
  • Ensure capitalization policy is followed and ensure all capital related documentation is updated on regular basis;
  • Ensure complete understanding of OEB regulations and IFRS standards for fixed asset recording;
  • Releasing Letter of credits as per project requirements;
TAXES:
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and year-end income tax provisions;
  • Responsible for gathering financial data and preparation of tax working paper file for the preparation of Annual Corporate Tax filings;
  • Reconciliation of tax provisions and other tax accounts in the financial statements, including deferred tax assets and liabilities;
  • Providing assistance on researching tax issues which impact the provision, tax returns and tax planning;
  • Assisting tax audits by Federal and Provincial income tax authorities and resolving any audit related issues, including preparing and maintaining supporting documentation for government audits;
  • Responding to tax queries and providing support to internal operations and finance personnel;
  • Assisting various other tax related matters and special projects as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary degree, together with a recognized professional accounting designation;
  • 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with working knowledge of IFRS accounting guidelines;
  • Knowledge of the regulated Ontario electricity market, including retail electricity contracts and distribution regulations in a utility environment will be considered an asset;
  • Experience with Great Plains and JET reports we be considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated experience with accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting;
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and work with and across various business units within the organization;
  • Hands-on experience in providing effective financial guidance to the business and department managers and leaders in a consultative role;
  • Strong sense of urgency and decision-making skills conducive to managing priorities and meeting internal and external timelines;
  • Excellent time management skills; sound judgment and decision making, critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities;
  • Superior organizational, analytical and facilitation skills; with excellent attention to detail;
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word ;
  • Ability to perform detailed reconciliations and numerical analysis; and work with large data sets;
  • Technologically savvy ? willingness to take initiative in learning the systems to create efficiencies from a reporting perspective while ensuring internal control compliance;
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships;
  • Results oriented mindset with ability to work on multiple projects/tasks at one time, to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines, work as part of and contribute to a multidisciplinary team;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence and communicate effectively across the company and externally at all levels;
