Your role on our team: Working with one of Ottawa's premier public entities, Minto Apartment Real Estate Investment Trust (the REIT), you will be required to support the management of the external reporting and the consolidation process. To accomplish this, you will need to grasp the strategic direction of the REIT by working with management and integrating their vision into our deliverables; work closely with FP&A and project finance to ensure alignment with strategy, develop strong relationships across various groups to ensure the streamlining of information. There are significant opportunities for growth for strong performers.

In this role, you will:
  • Develop a clear understanding of the strategic direction of the REIT and provide insight on the integration of that plan within the day-to-day operations;
  • Provide discerning input on process efficiencies;
  • Accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly and annual financial close procedures including preparation of consolidation entries;
  • Preparation of quarterly consolidated financial statements and Management's Discussion and Analysis including preparation and review of the required supporting schedules and analyses;
  • Provide key input on monthly and quarterly reporting packages for the REIT executives and Board of Trustees;
  • Provide balance sheet and income statement analysis based on astute understanding of operations;
  • Lead preparation of analysis on financial covenants and KPIs;
  • Research technical accounting issues and prepare accounting memos;
  • Assist with the review of supporting documentation and deliverables;
  • Liaise with external auditors to finalize audits and reviews;
  • Working on adhoc analysis and special projects as required.
We would like you to have:

Requirements:
  • Undergraduate university degree in Accounting or Finance;
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA: CA, CMA or CGA);
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in financial analysis and/or accounting. Prior work experience for a TSX listed entity or in real estate is considered an asset.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE);
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP or Yardi), reporting and collaboration tools (BPC and Workiva) is considered an asset;
  • Strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills;
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills;
  • Ability to function efficiently under pressure in order to meet various deadlines;
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize;
  • Solid written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and adapt quickly to a changing environment;
  • Ability to establish working relationships at all levels within the Finance department and across the organization.
