Reporting to the Manager, Upstream Accounting, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for the reporting the consolidated results of the Upstream Operations for Cenovus Energy. Working closely with the Upstream stakeholders, the successful candidate is accountable for consolidation of Upstream results for the OMT and CLT, developing analyzing the explaining the operations view versus the external reported view, coordinating quarter end and annual documents with Investor Relations, External Communications and the Reporting teams, prepare regulatory filing requiring CFO sign off and various ad hoc requests from the Comptroller supporting complicated consolidated Upstream variance analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform accounting and reporting activities on a recurring basis to support an accurate and timely period-end close, including:

  • Prepare the consolidated PMR reports for OMT and CLT consumption

  • Accountable for SOX sign off monthly for the Reporting team

  • Prepare financial reports and analysis

  • Perform detail review on month-end schedules to ensure deliverables are accurate and reliable

  • Liaise with various internal finance teams to compile quarterly consolidated Upstream assessment

  • Ensure accounting and reporting processes comply with applicable internal control (C-SOX) requirements. Documentation of process narratives and related financial controls.

  • Liaise with Corporate Planning to facilitate budget and forecast preparation

  • Identify and analyze possible improvements to processes and implement selected solutions

  • Develop and sustain executive level reporting packages

  • Prepare to work as a member of project teams as required. Provide insightful analysis on accounting impacts.

  • Involve in technology upgrades and changes related to Upstream Reporting and Analysis


Qualifications:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Professional accounting designation and minimum of two years post designation experience

  • 8+ years relevant accounting experience

  • Financial reporting experience under IFRS

  • Oil and Gas accounting and reporting experience is required

  • Knowledgeable in the application of current Canadian accounting policies, procedures, and reporting standards

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with the Microsoft Suite of products, including intermediate to advanced use of Excel

  • Previous experience with financial accounting systems and applications (JDE, QBYTE, SmartView, SAP, SAP-BW, Group Reporting) is highly desired

  • Proven analytical skills and a continuous improvement mindset with the ability to communicate complex information into meaningful insights

  • Capable of working in a fast-paced work environment with dynamic priorities and strict reporting deadlines

  • Proven judgment, analytical, and business skills

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills

  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
