ROLE SUMMARY 1 Full-Time Position – 12-month Contract. This position will work closely with Celero Solutions (Celero), a joint venture with Alberta Central, reporting into Alberta Central’s Assistant Controller, this position requires advanced knowledge of complex accounting principles and performs a variety of complex accounting functions including but not limited to maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial statements and cash flow forecasts. This position also leads the operating and capital budgets process, analyses operating statements and other financial reports and recommends process improvements. This position works independently, is routinely assigned work and ad hoc projects of greater scope and complexity and must adhere to generally accepted accounting principles and reporting requirements. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player with an ability to work with multiple internal and external stakeholders and have a demonstrated ability to provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Accountable for the preparation of year-end financial statements, as well as monthly and quarterly internal financial reporting package and adhoc requests.
  • Prepare financial variance analysis, management, and board reports.
  • Review and/or prepare calculations, journal entries and reconciliations.
  • IFRS research.
  • Prepare annual corporate tax provision and return and review GST/PST returns.
  • Accountable for the external and internal audit process.
  • Maintain governance, risk, and compliance to ensure controls are in place and operating effectively. Ensure documentation is relevant and up to date.
  • Accountable for role specific IT including the identification of process improvements and training.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.
  • Support risk management and effective governance by maintaining compliance with policies, procedures and controls both corporately and within area of responsibility, ensuring they are operating effectively and escalating discrepancies to management.
  • All other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS
  • Related University degree and typically 8 or more years of related experience; or combination of formal education and experience.
  • Knowledge of IFRS, particularly financial instruments, corporate and indirect tax.
  • Professional designation required (CA, CGA or CMA).
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and intermediate proficiency in the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook and teams) and other software as required.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced collaborative and team-oriented work environment.
  • Displays a positive attitude and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be bondable.
