About this opportunity:

Provide mentoring and coaching to financial analyst on Asia Pacific reporting team while indirectly helping to support finance teams in China and Indonesia, and influence on corporate initiatives where needed. This role will be in direct communication with the corporate reporting functions that impact Asia Pacific (Treasury, Tax, and Reporting) while also working directly with the business unit as needed to help support external reporting requirements, the income analysis, and performance management reporting.

This role will look after weekly production reporting, monthly performance management reporting, quarterly income analysis reporting to support external requirements, and annual legal entity creation for legal entities in Hong Kong and Indonesia. This role may also take over communicating the monthly performance management reporting to executives in Asia Pacific while also ensuring the business understands any sophisticated accounting issues that may arise. This role will work closely with the business to ensure topical issues are raised and documented in the performance management reporting process to provide to the Operations Management Team and Cenovus leadership team.

The Senior Financial Analyst will be involved with the corporate processes regarding DD&A and impairment testing and help support both the Asset Management team and China finance teams in this regard. They will lead any sophisticated initiatives that may impact Asia Pacific reporting while also creating and maintaining other reports that are currently used by the Asia Pacific reporting teams.

This position will be located in the Calgary, AB office.

Responsibilities:

Coach, mentor and train Asia Pacific analyst to understand monthly reporting including production reporting, performance management reporting, and required journal entries made every month.

Partner with business stakeholders to provide detailed analysis of focus areas of performance using achievement targets and trends.

Timely presentation to the business of any insights and interventions required to support future prioritization and planning.

Continuous improvement mentality to promote sophisticated analytics, standardization and simplification through a systematic approach.

Facilitate conversations between relevant parties to ensure underlying performance is well understood, transparent and the right actions are in place to achieve agreed short-term performance and long-term strategic targets.

Works closely with finance partners and business partners in China and Indonesia to proactively make suggestions to improve performance (i.e. thought partner).

Responsible for preparing and communicating the financial stewardship and performance management reporting for internal and external reporting purposes while bridging results to the economic P&L and external financial statements.

Responsible for annual legal entities financial statements that are prepared and audited by PwC in both Cyprus and Hong Kong. Coordinate between local finance teams and tax to ensure deadlines are met.

Handle DD&A and Impairment for Asia Pacific entity in Calgary in line with corporate policies.

Monthly reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts.

Weekly production updates provided to EVP and business unit.

Accounting entries and analysis related to Asia Pacific Reporting, specifically any corporate entries required and dealing with HK and Taiwan legal entities.

Prepare and post all accounting entries related to Asia Pacific Reporting as needed

Qualifications:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Accounting designation (CPA) is required. MBA would be an asset

Minimum of 8+ years of experience in accounting/financial reporting; preference for direct refining industry experience

Experience working with a team and indirectly influencing a diverse team with geographical differences

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Proficient in SAP and other reporting systems

Demonstrated business and financial competence

Capable of working in a fast-paced work environment with dynamically shifting priorities and deadlines

Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organization and time management skills

Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
