Reporting to the Director, Faculty & Staff Relations, this position is an integral part of the Human Resources team and provides strategic management and expertise in labour and employee relations matters to the University.




What You'll Do:



Collective Agreement Administration & Interpretation:

Ensure consistent and effective application of collective agreements by providing guidance to HR, management, and the Faculty & Staff Relations team.

Labour Relations & Employee Engagement:

Build and maintain positive relationships with employee groups and unions, act as spokesperson in grievances, disciplinary matters, and arbitrations, and promote collaborative labour relations across the University.

Collective Bargaining & Negotiations:

Lead or support negotiations as Chair or Co-Chair, develop bargaining strategies aligned with University goals, and provide training and orientation to bargaining committees.

Collaboration & Leadership Support"

Work closely with management to strengthen leadership, supervision, and decision-making in a unionized environment while leading or participating in projects and initiatives that enhance employee and labour relations.

Position Requirements

What You'll Bring to this Position:

An undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Commerce or Industrial Relations Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in the labour relations field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.





Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role:


Experience in a multi-union public sector organization is an asset. A thorough understanding of provincial employment and labour legislation, human rights legislation, and arbitral jurisprudence. Understands the principles of interpretation of collective agreements Demonstrable knowledge of collective agreement administration and labour relations. Proven experience managing grievance procedures and managing settlements Proven experience conducting investigations and proposing and managing remedial action Thorough knowledge of negotiations/collective bargaining. Strong orientation to relationship building and delivering quality service to clients In depth analytical skills to determine the appropriate strategy and recommendation on issues surrounding collective bargaining or collective agreement interpretation Excellent communication (oral and written) skills Conflict resolution and negotiations skills Ability to listen effectively, articulate and advocate effectively, problem solve and reconcile complex situations and divergent perspectives, often where some level of conflict is present Excellent organizational, research and administrative skills, ability to cope with multiple demands, manage and execute competing priorities, and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with management and between unions/management
