Position: Senior Estimator
Location: Toronto
Our client, a leader in their field, is currently looking for a to add to their team.
The Senior Estimator plays a key role in preparing both detailed and conceptual estimates, ensuring accurate costing and well-supported bid submissions. This position evaluates project risks and opportunities, oversees estimating activities across all scopes of work, and contributes to overall pre-construction planning. The role may also provide leadership to junior estimators and support strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.

Estimating & Cost Development
- Produce complete estimates and quantity take-offs across 16 divisions.
- Build conceptual estimates using drawings, specifications, and partially developed design information.
- Review and analyze subcontractor pricing, verifying alignment with project scope and requirements.
- Participate in bid closings, ensuring information is accurate, organized, and submitted on time.
- Identify and address inconsistencies, missing information, or unusual pricing.
Risk & Scope Review
- Examine drawings, specifications, and addenda to pinpoint potential risks, gaps, and assumptions early in the process.
- Evaluate constructability, schedule considerations, and procurement challenges.
- Highlight areas requiring clarification and communicate concerns to senior leadership.
- Recommend strategies to reduce exposure and strengthen competitiveness.
Planning, Coordination & Documentation
- Determine estimating priorities and set internal timelines and milestones.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Pre-Construction teams, and the Chief Estimator to explore cost-saving ideas and alternative solutions.
- Maintain well-organized estimate files, historical cost records, and supporting documents.
Budgeting & Value Analysis
- Prepare preliminary budgets and pricing updates throughout design development.
- Identify opportunities for cost efficiency for both clients and internal teams.
- Support value engineering efforts with practical alternates and recommendations.
- Review and level subcontractor bids to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Qualifications, Education and Experience:
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or Construction Management.
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in estimating with a strong track record of successful bids in ICI.
- Proven ability to handle full-cycle estimating with minimal oversight.
- Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Comfortable interpreting drawings, contracts, specifications, and addenda.
- Proficiency in Excel, On-Screen Takeoff, and estimating/bid management platforms (Viewpoint or similar considered an asset).
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience providing guidance or supervision to junior and intermediate estimators.
- Present cost findings, assumptions, and recommendations clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to meetings and discussions that shape bid strategy and project pursuit demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills, and confidently lead discussions or presentations when required.
- Delegate tasks effectively and help reinforce best practices across the estimating function and provide coaching and feedback.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners and ensure timely and professional communication with external partners.
- Maintain a reliable network to support accurate pricing and strong bid performance.
- High attention to detail and accuracy and ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and urgency.
- Organized, accountable, and solutions-focused in all aspects of work.
