Background

McElhanney has grown a well-established environmental practice that includes more than 65 professionals located across our Western Canadian offices. The team works collaboratively within the McElhanney Environmental Practice by leading and supporting multidisciplinary teams on a variety of projects.?We work across all the McElhanney market sectors including cities and communities, energy and resources, and transportation and transit.

Due to organic growth and an expanding market, we are seeking a dynamic leader to support the local team and participate in the McElhanney Environmental Practice.

The Opportunity

McElhanney has a new opportunity for an experienced or aspiring leader to oversee and continue to grow our environment team as a Senior Environmental Professional / Team Lead for Site Assessment and Remediation in our Vancouver Island Region, based in either our Victoria, or other Island locations. As a senior professional and team lead, you?will continue to build and lead a team of skilled professionals while working with technical staff in a variety of environmental projects across several communities and locales. We are seeking a true team player - someone who can act as the 'team captain', providing both strategic direction at the local level and meaningful contributions to McElhanney's broader Environmental Practice.

Working with our Victoria Operations Manager and other senior professionals, you will set the direction of the team and provide input towards the broader Environmental Practice. You will provide direct technical oversight to your team, while ensuring project requirements, client needs, and team goals are successfully met. You will continue to cultivate an environment that is set for long term success and foster an engaged culture with strong technical abilities.

What You'll Do

Provide senior leadership and mentorship to McElhanney's contaminated sites team locally, with an emphasis on helping to develop the next generation of leaders within the environmental consulting industry. Support and managing site assessments and remediation projects. Actively engage with clients, work on business development initiatives to grow and continue to establish a local and Vancouver Island regional practice. Work closely with other disciplines to provide comprehensive client solutions. Be open to change, be creative, and be an entrepreneur at heart. Think outside the box - provide innovative solutions within the existing regulatory frameworks by being a partner with our clients, suppliers, and regulators. Provide environmental advice and solutions internally and externally to guide design and assist with project planning. Foster relationships and manage subcontracting specialties as required. Be a champion of workplace safety, and preparing and adhering to site-specific health and safety plans.

What You'll Bring

5-10 years of progressive work experience in the contaminated sites environmental consulting industry. Demonstrated experience of managing people is considered an asset. Registration in good standing or ability to be registered with Engineers BC (P.Eng, P.Geo.), BC institute of Agrologists (P.Ag.), College of Applied Biology (R.P.Bio.) or equivalent. Experience liaising with First Nations or government agencies. A strong sense of leadership, drive, teamwork, resiliency, adaptability, humility, humour, curiosity, competence, integrity, and forming positive relationships. A solution minded approach to complex and complicated problems. Sound business acumen, client liaison skills, and a keen entrepreneurial spirit. Strong attention to detail and client/ project management capabilities. Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License at the time of hire.

This role is designated as a?safety sensitive?position.

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $85,000-165,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
