Overview


FireFly Metals Canada Ltd. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Environmental Coordinator to support the development and expansion of its underground copper-gold mining operations and exploration activities in Newfoundland and Labrador. This role is critical to ensuring environmental compliance, advancing permitting strategies, and integrating sustainability into all phases of project development and operations.

Requirements:



Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Environmental Science, Biology, Engineering, or a related field.

Minimum 7 years of experience in environmental coordination, preferably in mining or industrial sectors. Strong knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador's environmental regulations and permitting processes.

Experience with underground mining, mine expansion and construction projects or a combination of similar experience.

Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Superior computer skills are essential, and the ability to collect, manage and administer a large database of GPS, field and laboratory data to track and report on construction and operations performance for compliance and ESG report.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Key Accountabilities



Environmental Compliance & Monitoring Fieldwork



Lead the implementation of environmental management systems and ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations.

Oversee baseline data collection, monitoring programs, and reporting for air, water, soil, and biodiversity.

Coordinate with consultants and contractors conducting fieldwork and environmental assessments

Comfortable working in remote field environments and rugged terrain under varying weather conditions.

Experience conducting environmental baseline studies, site inspections, and monitoring programs.

Ability to coordinate logistics for field teams and ensure safety and data integrity during field campaigns.

Permitting & Regulatory Engagement



Support the preparation and submission of environmental permits, including for early works, construction, and operations.

Liaise with regulatory agencies, community groups, and stakeholders to facilitate timely approvals.

Track permit conditions and ensure operational teams are informed and compliant.

Project Support



Collaborate with site engineering, construction, and operations teams to integrate environmental considerations into fieldwork, construction and operational activities.

Assist in the development of orientation and training packages for the construction and operations workforce to develop awareness of environmental considerations and commitments, and ensure compliance

Support the development of mitigation strategies and adaptive management plans.

GIS Expertise:



Proficient in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial data collection, analysis, and mapping.

Experience designing and managing geospatial databases to support environmental monitoring, permitting, and reporting.

Ability to integrate field data (e.g., water sampling locations, habitat assessments, infrastructure layouts) into GIS platforms for visualization and decision-making.

Data Collection, Management and Administration:



Skilled in planning and executing field programs that generate high-quality environmental and geotechnical data.

Experience with GPS-enabled data collection tools and mobile field apps (e.g., Collector for ArcGIS, Survey123).

Strong understanding of data quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) protocols and metadata standards.

Ability to manage large datasets, including environmental monitoring results, permitting records, and spatial layers.

Experience developing dashboards or reporting tools to communicate environmental performance and compliance status.

Technical Reporting & Communication:



Maintain accurate records of environmental data, permits, and communications.

Capable of producing clear, data-driven reports and maps for internal teams, regulators, and stakeholders.

Strong analytical skills to interpret spatial and temporal trends in environmental data.

Prepare internal and external reports, including regulatory submissions and sustainability disclosures.
