Job Description


My client is a niche environmental consulting firm focused on the areas of regulatory affairs and permitting, Indigenous engagement and relationship building, water stewardship, closure and reclamation planning, compliance and environmental management, and project management. Their primary focus is on the mining and mineral exploration, and they lead permitting and regulatory affairs matters for many projects. They expect to double in size over the next two years and due to their continued success and growth and a very strong and successful brand name.

My client is currently seeking a highly experienced Senior Environmental Assessment and Permitting Specialist with more than 15+ years of extensive experience in the field, specifically focusing on mining projects. This role necessitates an individual who is highly organized, possesses strong documentation, analytical, and technical skills in the environmental sector. The position holds a seniority level, encompassing responsibilities such as environmental assessment, permitting, and project management. In this role, you will collaborate with regulatory agencies, Indigenous nations, key stakeholders, client representatives, and other consulting teams to develop innovative solutions for intricate challenges. This is a fully remote position located in Canada, offering an excellent opportunity to work from the comfort of your own home while making a significant contribution to environmental initiatives.

Experience:

  • Oversee the project management of multi-disciplinary environmental assessments and permits from inception to completion.
  • Understanding and interpreting provincial, territorial, and federal legislation to meet the needs of the project and client objectives.
  • Navigating complex permitting processes and procedures to obtain necessary approvals to achieve milestones and deadlines.
  • Providing strategic regulatory advice to senior management representatives of mining and other resource industry proponents.
  • Building strong relationships with decision makers and stakeholders at all stages of each project, including Indigenous communities, governments, regulatory bodies, and other environmental consultants.
  • Actively participating in identifying, drafting, and executing proposals and other business development opportunities.
  • Providing mentorship to junior and intermediate staff involved in EA and permitting work by assisting with training and career development.
  • Orchestrating the development of environmental assessment reports, including editing content and technical wording, and providing expert analysis of documents.
  • Managing consultants to ensure timely completion of environmental assessment & permitting process deliverables including baseline studies, modeling, effects assessment, and application development.
  • Liaising on a day-to-day basis with project team leads, including engineering consultants, to ensure environmental aspects are incorporated into project design.
  • Supporting the development and management of project budgets.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Natural/Environmental Sciences, Resource Management, Engineering or Planning (Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree and/or Professional Designation (ex. R.P. Bio., P.Eng.) will be an asset);
  • Canadian regulatory laws and permitting requirements (International knowledge will be an asset);
  • 15+ years progressive experience related to environmental assessments and permitting;
  • Strong technical writing and attention-to-detail;
  • Exposure to a range of environmental practice areas (ex. air quality, noise, surface and groundwater quality, vegetation, wildlife, fish and fish habitat, socioeconomics, archaeology);
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills maintaining a professional demeanor with high standards and professional integrity; and
  • Team player who is collaborative, respectful, and supportive of team development and growth.
