We are on a critical mission to deliver robust telecom connectivity across Nunavut and Northern Quebec, and we need a proven leader to serve as Director of Engineering & Operations in Ottawa. This role demands strategic oversight of our Network Operations Center (NOC), network engineering, and field operations teams, ensuring seamless connectivity in some of Canada's most challenging regions. On-site duty in Ottawa is mandatory to foster team unity and drive operational excellence.We seek candidates with exceptional leadership, accountability, and a mission-driven mindset to oversee a complex operation. You will be interviewed by a seasoned executive with deep experience in Northern Canada's unique challenges, ensuring alignment with our goals.
YOUR MISSION OBJECTIVES:
+ Provide strategic leadership for network engineering, field operations, and 24/7 NOC operations ensuring reliability, fault management, and service restoration.
+ Guide a team of 14 engineers/technicians and their technical managers, fostering collaboration and operational excellence.
+ Transition network engineering from project-based to operational focus, prioritizing uptime and performance.
+ Set performance standards, reward excellence, and address deficiencies.
+ Authorize critical actions, oversee troubleshooting, and drive strategic solutions.
+ Develop training programs and automation to enhance team efficiency and readiness.
+ Deliver detailed reports to anticipate and prevent service disruptions in demanding environments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Proven leadership in high-stakes environments, ideally managing teams of engineers/technicians or similar technical groups.
+ Strong character, with a sense of urgency, accountability, and mission focus.
+ Experience in telecommunications engineering and network operations (e.g., fault management, surveillance) is necessary; adaptability is key.
+ Expertise in managing remote teams, fostering trust and collaboration across geographies.
+ Exceptional decision-making skills under pressure, with a focus on rapid assessment and resolution.
+ Comfortable working on-site in Ottawa in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
+ On-site duty required, no remote assignments.
