JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Engineer, Mechanical Engineering (Chemical) is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies, and practices for the corporation. As a member of SaskPower\xe2\x80\x99s management team, this position is responsible for assisting with and/or preparing technical studies, analysis reports, business cases, designs, specifications, engineering drawings, and procurement evaluations. This position may be required to prepare project plans, estimates, and schedules and provide contract and project management services, ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives. This position will be involved in the analysis and optimization of SaskPower\xe2\x80\x99s existing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facility as well as support the identification and assessment of new CCS processes and technology.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies and practices.
  • Provide technical expertise related to chemical and process engineering for power generation, water treatment and CCS processes, equipment and systems.
  • Provide detailed analysis of chemical processes, equipment and performance data to support strategic optimization of existing processes and assessment of new technology.
  • Research, prepare and peer review technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations to implement operational procedures and process improvements.
  • Develop and review detailed designs, test plans, evaluation criteria, technical specifications, guidelines, standards and new practices based upon codes, technologies and methodologies.
  • Manage the scope, schedule, costs and relationships between stakeholders of all assigned projects according to project standards and specifications.

  • Provide technical assistance and direction for plant operations.
  • Provide direction to engineers, technologists, consultants and other external technical agencies as required.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and technologists.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Engineering specializing in Chemical or Process Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering Designation P.Eng.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years post P. Eng. and relevant experience providing research, design and development of chemical processes and equipment, process analysis and optimization, process modelling, and operations and maintenance support for industrial chemical, CCS or other related facilities.
  • Experience with planning, constructing, operating, commissioning of facilities, management, and coordination of technical aspects of contracts and/or technical coordination of highly complex projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant design codes, standards, industry best practices, new trends and developments related to complex chemical processes, equipment and systems.
  • Experience and knowledge related to the analysis and optimisation of CCS processes and technology
  • Demonstrated ability to provide recommendations and influence decision making.
  • Demonstration of strong relationships with working groups, committees and technical leaders across the organization and external partners.
  • Ability to provide competent leadership, including, coaching and development of technical staff including engineers, engineers-in-training and other resources as required.
  • Deep and/or broad experience providing guidance and expertise on complex technical issues.
  • Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Ability to work and manage in a multi-discipline engineering environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, project management and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated skill in SaskPower\'s Competencies (analytical thinking; communication; identifying, planning and executing; judgement and decision making; problem solving and innovation; solution focus).
  • Must have a continuing record of professional development.
