We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for an exciting opportunity with our client in Toronto, Ontario. This is a hybrid, work from home opportunity offering highly competitive compensation, excellent benefits, and the chance to be a technical leader within a global operation with manufacturing facilities throughout North and South America. Applicants must be comfortable travelling 25-30% of the year.

The successful Engineer will oversee plant maintenance and customer projects, focusing on power distribution systems and electrical equipment. They will perform power system studies, prepare electrical design documents and review designs produced by external electrical consultants. They will ensure that electrical designs conform to company and industry standards, and develop, maintain, and revise company electrical engineering standards on an ongoing basis.

The Senior Engineer will also be instrumental in overseeing and managing all CAPEX projects relating to electrical & power systems/equipment. They will develop and participate in design support with concepts and detailed engineering for electrical projects of High Voltage, Medium Voltage, and Low Voltage power distribution systems involving substation transformers, rectifier transformers, high power rectifiers, DC-power distribution, surge arrestors, RC snubbers, power factor correction and harmonic mitigation, switchgears, interrupting switches, power generating systems, motor control centers (MCCs), VFD controllers, cables and cable systems, UPS, DC battery system and chargers, grounding grid, lightning protection, power motors, relay and protective devices.

Commissioning, installation, and maintenance activities will also be expected as part of this role, most maintenance can be executed remotely, but the Engineer will be expected to travel to customer sites for commissioning on a semi-regular basis.

While it would be ideal for a candidate to be based within the GTA, we welcome candidates from anywhere in Canada to apply, as long as you reside within reasonable distance of an international airport. A Canadian passport and ability to travel is required.

Qualified applicants will present at least 20 years of relevant Engineering experience. A P. Eng. designation is an absolute must, Master Electrician designation would be a major asset. Candidates MUST have experience with Rectifiers and Power Transformers, along with significant high voltage knowledge and exposure. Must possess in-depth knowledge and experience with Electrical Power Systems (HV/MV/LV), Power transmission and distribution design, installation, commissioning & maintenance.

Required Qualifications :

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems Specialty) or related discipline
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience
  • P. Eng Designation
  • Master Industrial Electrician (preferred)
  • Expert knowledge of and experience with Electrical Power Systems (HV/MV/LV), Power transmission and distribution design, installation, commissioning & maintenance.
  • Experience in high power D.C. rectifiers, substation design, grounding, protection and control.
  • Experience in Chemical or Petro-Chemical Industries within a similar capacity is preferred
  • Proficient in EasyPower, ETAP, and/or SKM, Computer skills (excluding CADD)
  • Leadership skills
  • Strong health and safety mindset
