What You Would Do in This Role

The Intermediate Designer prepares complicated drawings and charts in a specialized field EIC. The Intermediate Designer also assists in the design of different aspects of energy industry related projects from inception to completion. Duties include:

  • Producing complicated drawings and charts in a specialized field, involving planning, layout, bill of materials, etc. for major installations
  • Designing and detailing new components from previous designs based on engineering instructions, government and regulatory codes and client standards
  • Developing designs of limited scope and complexity requiring theoretical and practical design knowledge in a specialized field
  • Assisting site during construction
  • Checking the work of, and assisting in the training of, less experienced drafting and design personnel
  • Reporting progress of work assignments to immediate supervisor
  • Analyzing design elements for potential trends, technical feasibility, and client or contractual requirements
  • Ensuring all drawings and materials are in accordance with Vista and client specifications and standards
  • Drafting moderate-to-complex 2D drawings, charts, schedules, etc.
  • Preparing as-built drawings based on field red-line markups
  • Generating 3D models based on engineers\xe2\x80\x99 design sketches for cable trays, junction boxes & local control panels, e-house equipment, EHT, etc. Creating 2D drawings from reference of the 3D models
  • Producing energy industry facility-related drawing packages including SLDs, area classification drawings, electrical layouts, JB wiring diagrams, motor/VFD schematics, cable schedules, EHT isometrics, etc
  • Performing demand load calculations, voltage drop calculations, cable tray fill calculations, etc.
  • Participating in the requisition of electrical equipment such as switchgears, MCC, UPS, EHT panels, e-Houses, etc.
  • Interpreting information from vendor electrical drawings, P&IDs, LDTs, isometrics etc. and visualize client requirements
  • Preparing instrumentation wiring drawings and loop drawings
  • Preparing 2D drawings including control architecture, control block diagram, instrument location, fiber optics panels, communication panels, local control panels, etc
  • Preparing instruments and communication cable schedule
  • Preparing fire and gas P&IDs
  • Performing other duties as requested
Requirements
  • Eight (8) to ten (10) plus years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the energy industry
  • Technical school certification / degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team including process, mechanical, civil-structural, electrical, instrumentation, and piping
  • Advanced computer skills and experience in major drafting and design software such as Auto CAD, CADWorx, SmartPlant, AutoPLANT, AVEVA and PDMS
  • Basic understanding of applicable government regulations and regulatory codes
  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal and written) and proven ability to collaborate with team members in a multi-discipline environment
  • Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail
  • Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
Preferred
  • Five years of experience in a designer capacity, ideally with a focus in the energy industry
